Morning all,

According to Sydney Airport's Aviation Community page,

Kalitta Freighter will begin operations to Sydney effective 1 September 2012 operating a B747-400F. First flight K4-9577 will arrive at 09:00 from UAE and will depart approximately 19:30 for Singapore / Kabul.

That's very good! Hope to get a 747-2F sub! But I don't think the 747-2 has the range?
Thought they might start SYD flights.

The 742's don't have the legs sadly to pull off that flight. However, in the past other cargo and passenger airlines have made stopovers on direct flights when a aircraft has subbed that does not have required range so it isn't necessarily impossible to get a 747-200F on this flight if the right circumstances occurred.

This service does give us a very good chance at seeing their new 747-400ERF which is the last 747-400 ever built. It was left stored after being built in 2009 and Connie aquired the bird late last year.

Shayne,
Dubai Airwing operate a B742F (A6-GDP) before the acquired A6-GGP.

Shayne G
24th August 2012, 04:40 PM
Yes they did, but that used to go via Singapore or another port each time?

Fingers crossed that the service will not be short term thing!

Well i am only showing about 10 flights over a 10 day period.

One per day.All in at 0800.0900 or 10am

Not sure really what is happening.

Hey Lloyd,

You may be spot on like usual with this. The inbound flight is a 9000 flight number, Connie uses these flight numbers for positioning flights so I expect these planes will arrive empty.
The final destination appears to be Afghanistan, I'm guessing these are ADF flights in which case would probably be temporary so the 10 flights over 10 days might be all we get. Thanks for your always informative info, hope a 742 gets in the mix somehow.

Kalitta reminds me of dirty and old 747s

Having met Connie a few years ago in the states through my association with Top Fuel Racing,I'm not sure that he would agree with that

I for one wouldn't mind catching a glimpse of that new 747-400ERF that Shayne mentioned if it happened to get here.

Connie only have 7 747-4F's?
With the large arrival time span (8am-10am) that could mean a stop in WSSS before continuing to SYD for a sub 747-2.

Shayne G
30th August 2012, 12:38 PM
Yes Brad, they have 6 747-400BCF's and 1 747-400ERF. I believe they also have a 'new' B742 (N795CK) about to enter service for them replacing a machine or two that have maxed out.

The time differences could mean the possibility of a classic operating a flight. It may also indicate they might arrive from different locations (First one is from Sharjah) as the flight number is an indication the inbound flights are probably re-location flights.

Hi all,

I'm assuming the first Kalitta flight has already arrived earlier this morning.
Can anyone confirm the departure time and destination are still the same?

Also any word yet on the next flight?

Cheers

Kalitta Air B742 N792CK departed at 08:48 this morning (ADS-B).

I'm sorry if I've missed or mistaken something here, but did this morning's Kalitta flight arrive or depart YSSY at 0850? Is it still there now?

Stefan stated it was inbound to Sydney,to arrive at 0850,I thought.

Slightly off-topic, but aside from these flights when was the last time Sydney saw a B747-200? And to go back even further, when was the last B747-100 at YSSY (I'm presuming it would have been either Evergreen or most likely UPS)?

When did Maskargo stop using Southern Air's 742's, about a year or so ago, and around about year ago a Kalitta Ait 742 came in forgotten rego, as for a 100 series don't know...

As far as PASSENGER 747-200's go, I am pretty sure the last one to operate into Sydney was JALWays JA8150.

Happy to be corrected though

I believe the last B747-100 to visit Sydney was UPS as you stated Nigel, in 2005/06. Can't remember when Evergreen last visited Sydney.

It could be the Northwest B747-200 N623US which was in Sydney in July 2008 for World Youth Day. I have a photo of it sitting by the pond...

Good thing I said I was happy to be corrected because you are 100% correct Stefan.

Maybe I'll adjust my post to say last scheduled service?

Today's flight, N792CK, operated by a 747-200 sporting a rather clandestine white livery.

Of course, photography was complicated by something else parked in front of it. Not something I want to loiter around, really!

There is speculation/ word Jim that yesterday's aircraft and today's aircraft, both the 200's, will be alternating the remanding flights between themselves.
I think and not sure but yesterday's flight would have sufficient time to get back here by 9am if that's it's arrival time.

But that could be just hearsay so don't take that as gosspel...
Photos of today's arrival on the link below..

Wouldn't mind seeing N748CK here, she is an ex Panam cargo aircraft, I saw her in PHNL but didn't get any good shots.
I have noticed that none of these 747-2's have the wingtip antenna's. :(

Last night's flight flew out straight over our house. We have a new title holder for the noisiest plane, taking over from United's 744's. As I was in my kitchen I really noticed something different about the sound of the approaching aircraft and by the time it was overhead the sound was very different from anything else flying out of SYD at the moment....not that that's a bad thing.

Never witnessed DHE flying over? :p
The one last night took 22 minutes to climb to FL280, average of 1,270fpm, maybe that's why it seemed extra loud, she was heavy!

CKS576 arrival is delayed until 17:00 tomorrow afternoon.

Also N792CK is scheduled to be off the Sydney runs very shortly so we should see a new B742 rego or a B744F.

Subject to change as usual.

Kalitta Air B742 N795CK is operating the flight to Sydney tomorrow due around 0705, 2nd visit.

Schedule indicates another aircraft swap will occur on the weekend, keep the classics coming! :D

I made a reference to N795CK earlier (http://yssyforum.net/board/showpost.php?p=77451&postcount=12) in the thread :) . This bird did come out of storage very recently, mainly to replace 1 - 2 other B742's that have recently come to an end. There's a possibility of another one coming out from storage I believe.

I managed to have a bit of a chat to the pilots the other night who flew
N795CK out here and they were quite intrigued at how many people came out to photograph their plane.

Hi all,

Just after an update on what is happening/has happened with the Kalitta flights.
Did we only get the 10 flights or are they still going?

Also, was it only the 2 or 3 742s that operated the flights or did a Kalitta 744F make it here?

Thanks
Jim

Nigel C

Thanks Nigel,it was great to have those 742s visit, but I personally would have liked to see at least one Kalitta 744.

Shame it didn't come off
