Not sure if this has been covered already...

Canberra-based Brindabella Airlines has announced it will base one of its 30-seater J41s in Sydney from 19NOV12. The aircraft would be used on its existing Sydney-Cobar services. The Airline currently operates a number of weekly Cobar services and seasonal (read ski season) services to Cooma from Sydney

Expect to see more of them in SYD!! I have been told that they are going to replace the whole fleet with 8x J41's (all to come from USA) & the Aeropelican scheme will disappear & be replaced by the Brindabella one!

Heard the same about replacing Aeroduck J32's with J41's.

Why would they replace the Aeropelican scheme instead of vice versa when Aeropelican took over Brindabella...

Brindabella hads a far more relevant name from a marketing point of view, especially as the Pelican/Belmont airport no longer has commercial services.

Ah, makes sense then, thanks for that.

Grahame,I do remember those Twin Otter days. KZO,KZP and KZQ from memory, don't know if there were more or not.

Trust you to dig one out to take us down memory lane :D

Thanks

AeroPel was a great service. Flew many times . The Otters were great from a short strip.

Started my PPL at Pelican, had to watch for double-decker busses on finals.

Hmmm I don't think many Novocastrians would feel that way branding wise. Im not sure many have heard of Brindabella, no association with the region. But anyway, I still miss YPEC twin otters. :-)

I'd agree with that David... 'Brindabella' wouldn't mean much to most of the combined airline's network

It's sad isn't it. I loved watching and riding on the Twin Otters from YPEC. The feeling of the take off and the landing was just such a great flying experience. When I first got a credit card one of my first silly purchase was a return trip for a rediculous price just for the hell of it.

One of my biggest regrets is I can't find my video of a YPEC take off I took with an old smartphone in the mid 00s. Otherwise I'd put it up on my @ThisPlaneLife twitter and YouTube account.

The Twin Otter, the only aircraft to get a bird strike from the rear!

I thought the Caribou had that honour....?

The Caribou always had the rear door open, the birds just flew straight through.

OTD,OTE,OTF on 24/01/2013.

Zac M

Zac M

OTD and OTF are in maintenance at CBR, OTE is operating CBR-NTL rotations so I assume there is a Metro or J41 doing SYD-NTL

In regards to this merger with Aeropelican will any J32 aircraft receive the Brindabella livery or are they phasing all of these aircraft out?

Zac M
27th July 2013, 08:40 AM
I believe both the J32 and Metro will be phased out.

Michael R
27th July 2013, 08:51 AM

Michael,

This is a Brin media release that might answer some questions:

BRINDABELLA AIRLINES CONCLUDES AIRCRAFT ACQUISITION AND 1st DELIVERY
13 June 2013

Brindabella Airlines is pleased to announce it has concluded an agreement for the acquisition of four BAE Jetstream 41 aircraft with the option to acquire a further five to support the airlines growth over the next two years.

Chief Executive Officer of Brindabella Airlines Paul Schütz said today: “The first aircraft is being prepared for delivery and we can expect to see it in our Canberra hanger by the weekend of 16th June 2013 with it going into service some three weeks later. The three additional aircraft will be welcomed into our fleet at approximately one month intervals”.

Brindabella Airlines new arrival will complement the airlines existing Jetstream 41 and 32 fleet, assist improve customer experience, maximise on time performance, and allow the progressive standardisation of the airlines fleet, product and on-board service. The BAE Jetstream 41 aircraft, with its niche capacity for an aircraft of its class, offers timely travel to destinations within the 1,000 kilometre range.

The airlines Chief Commercial Officer James Blake said: “The delivery of this year’s first additional aircraft will result in our customers welcoming the reintroduction of the Jetstream 41 product onto our 24 flights per week Brisbane to Tamworth route, and daily service from Brisbane to Coffs Harbour allowing them to benefit from our friendly cabin crew service offering complimentary snacks, alcoholic and light refreshments, an on-board rest room, and greater capacity”.

Greg Hyde

That must have been some ferry flight. Does anyone know what route it took?

Flightaware only shows one leg from Mt Isa to Canberra,
