Pictures, Comments, Questions etc for December Noteworthy Movements (http://yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=8857) should be posted here.

Tomorrow's ANZ103 is being operated by a B777-300ER, and given that ZK-OKP (a.k.a. Hobbit jet) is currently on its way to AKL as ANZ1 it's very likely that we're gonna see some Hobbits tomorrow.

Anyone to confirm this?

Singapore Airlines flight 241/242 will be operated as a 777-200ER tomorrow.

Yep its been confirmed! OKP is hopping across the ditch tomorrow *providing nothing goes wrong in the mean time*

Hendra Barnes

What a way to start the month.
Unfortunately, with the weather/temp predicted tomorrow, I reckon it would be quite challenging to get a clean shot, pending on the runway movement, Qantas Drive and it's surroundings might just be the best spot.

Enjoy the Hobbit spotting tomorrow. Got to miss this one due to other commitments. :)

Cheers,
HB

The Hobbit has arrived in SYD & in other news, China Eastern B-6127, is back to wearing the standard scheme! It's operating MU561/562 today.

HORRID conditions, went from overcast/rain for arrival, to nearly 40c by departure, but still, glad to have seen it... Not a bad decal really!!

Good shots mate, I didn't fare any better on the other side, I am liking the new black tail too.

The black tail looks great with the Hobbit decals, however, I don't think I'll share the same sentiments on their normal livery once they repaint their aircraft...

Singapore Airlines flight 241/242 will be operated as a 777-200ER tomorrow.

These will be common on this flight now. Up until XMAS they will operate 5 out of 7 flights, then the A330 will operate the other 2. Then just after XMAS the B772's will operate all SQ241/242 flights.

Yesterday's was operated by 9V-SVM. Today's SQ241/242 is being operated by 9V-SRN.

Air NZ All Blacks 777 is doing NZ119 at the moment. Should be arriving around 2:30pm. Damn I'm in the office today :) Will be a nice site coming over the eastern suburbs for rwy 25.

It departed on 25 too. In fact just about everything apart from a few long hauls that used either 16R or 34L from about 0830 til 1630 went off 25 today!

A few flights from Auckland have been delayed, eg ANZ105 will now arrive at 10:05pm instead of 5:30pm and a few other Air New Zealand flights have been cancelled. CI52 will now arrive at approx 9:56pm instead of 8:30pm. Also Jetstar and Qantas flights out of Auckland have been delayed too.
Could anyone fill us in on the reason?

Yeah, it was nice to see an Air NZ 747 arrive this afternoon. A somewhat rare treat.

I know that AirNZ will bring it over the tasman if the loads warrant it.

Incidently they could feasably bring it over daily as theres at least 1 747 parked up at AKL all day, in fact I've seen 12 of 20 (7 777s, 4 767s, 1 747) of their widebody fleet parked at AKL from 6am and still there at 6pm. Not great utilisation of their fleet. I wonder how that compares to QF. NZ could be one of the world worst IMO. No wonder why they rake up a $1m INTL OPS loss per week.

Just a heads up for tomorrow. ZK-OKP in "The Hobbit" livery might be in Sydney. NZ118/119 to SYD and NZ135/136 to BNE are scheduled to be operated by Boeing 777-300ER's so one will be lucky and get OKP and the other will get OKM.

Nigel C
18th December 2012, 08:04 PM
TAI has been parking in Sydney for the past month or so and doing fairly regular flights out of there.

The Cessna could be just a training flight and control zone exposure for a student pilot at a guess. Or perhaps they were dropping someone off who is catching a commercial flight?

Incidentally , the SMH article quotes LAS as being 17 hrs behind SYD , clearly if it was there would be no way they could make it there for a second New Year celebration by midnight local time. LAS is 19 hrs behind SYD , even then they they will be cutting it fine .

Interestingly, the same article in the Canberra Times does indeed mention "light aircraft" for flights to Canberra.

Obviously there is no way they will be driving, they would have a real hard time of making LAS otherwise. Especially as though they don't need to drive.

Does anyone know why/who was doing several approaches to 07 at Sydney this afternoon (29/12 approx 1300 local) in a Piper Navajo ? Very unusual for a major airport to be allowing this sort of training. My apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. (I'm new). :o

Jayden Laing

Hi Peter,
It was actually a KingAir B300 which belongs to AeroPearl but operates for Air Services Australia & those missed approaches were apart of what is know as Runway calibration (I'm not too sure what it does entail exactly) but someone else I'm sure will happily explain it better for you :-)

Nigel C
30th December 2012, 04:16 AM
Hi Peter,

Have a look here http://www.yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=8901&page=2 .

It was a Beechcraft King Air 350 VH-FIY performing Instrument Landing System (ILS) testing/calibration. Basically they do a series of around 15 approaches using the localiser and glidepath and technicians on the ground and in the aircraft monitor the results and make any subtle changes if needed. The tests are done from different angles both horizontally and vertically to ensure the ILS is transmitting correctly. It's a requirement that the ILS gets flight tested for accuracy every 6 months; ground based tests are done more frequently.

Today they will do the calibration of Rwy 25 ILS if the weather permits.

Not quite big league but I was in the garden earlier and saw a Cessna 337 heading for Bankstown. 3,283m should be enough for a 747 to takeoff with a very good load, if not MTOW.

By my calculations, they need the trip to go no longer than 15 hours 45 minutes. It's ambitious, but they might just make it.

No, I'm just a shift worker who was on duty when I made that post. Happy New Year, eh?

But I'm home now, and I'm enjoying my second beer to celebrate the new year. Don't ask me to calculate anything else...!

Not quite big league but I was in the garden earlier and saw a Cessna 337 heading for Bankstown. Checked my Airnav/SBS log and it turned out to be a Cessna O-2A with a USA hexcode which Airfames org has it as N7654A . It may be equipped with spray equipment as the operator is shown as Stuttgart Mosquito Control.

Still at Bankstown Peter! Rego is VH-OTU (registered to Conway Bown http://www.regosearch.com/aircraft/au/OTU) parked up near Whitworth's

Full load of fuel perhaps?

Maybe, Would the fuel be cheaper at SYD than CBR as with the economy of scale at SYD it could make supplying it cheaper to the airlines. Just a thought.

It refuelled in CBR, something got stuffed up and a lot of it ended up all over the RAAF apron...

Good on them, hope they had an enjoyable trip. Too much money? Maybe, but if they spend it on our shores supporting our aviation industry bring it on I say.
