Hey guys.

Anyone know why the QF21 went into CNS last night on the way to NRT?

Todd.

Todd

Haven't found out the exact reason but with the stop being fairly brief, possibly medical.
QF21 OJI presently on descent into NRT with about 10 min to go according to Flightaware so about 2.5 hours behind I guess.

Hope your trip in was less eventful.

Jim

Looks like it's not a medical diversion.

Bit of a misleading title wouldn't you say??

Qantas flight from Perth to Japan diverted to Cairns

The man was from Perth, not the flight!! BUT, hey, never let the facts get in the way of a good story headline!!!

I am sure the passengers would have been annoyed by the delay but happy they could divert to offload the passenger. It would have been worse if they were past Australia - it would be interesting if they would turn back to CNS or divert to another port (like HKG).

Would Guam be a diverting airport? The flight practically flew right over Guam.

Hopefully the bloke was taken to the Cairns watchhouse where he was acquainted with some of the local clientele. I am sure they would have sobered him up quickly!

It is an interesting one - the delay was about 2 and a half hours, so you wonder how much longer it would have been in terms of impacting crew hours. If this passenger or any passenger was as disruptive as is being reported, they would want to offload him as soon as they good, within the normal logisitcal limitations.

Hope he has to pay the airline the bill for all the disruption he caused to the airline and other passengers.

So thats the reason it came to CNS it took off at 0245am this morning it was very loud lucky its a one off and I'm 14km from the airport here. I can understand a bit why SYD folk want to keep their curfew.

You are very lucky to have this rare visitor. The more 747s there are the better it is,I say :D

Hope they throw the book at him. This type of behavior shouldn't be accepted on the street, let alone on board an aircraft!

Hope he cops the full force of the law, but,he probably won't
Lock him up,I say,and hopefully the airline will recover some costs.

Some of these types need a class action put up against him from each and every passenger for disruption to their transport

Yes, but prefer them to land in daytime to get a good look and a photo or two.

Jarden,that's a fair call I guess!

As for this bloke, after reading the article that Ryan posted,I believe that he definitely needs locking up. You can't help people like this and he should also be banned from boarding another aircraft - PERIOD!!

May seem tough, but I have no time for this kind of stuff.

Well, he's already got bail, so there goes the idea of locking him up.

Also, how was he able to bring the alcohol on board? Wouldn't it have been way over the 100ml liquid limit?

Agree Ryan, the first part of the legal system has failed by letting him out on bail.

He should pay all costs to the airline and get banned from all airlines for a couple of years as a mininum but I doubt that will happen.

I suspect he must have bought the alcohol duty free past security. I often wonder at what point in time will they ban all alcohol from air travel.

Ryan,he was always going to get bail, that's just the way the soft legal system is. What we need now is a tough magistrate or judge who is prepared to see his crimes for what they truly are and take the required tough action when sentencing occurs.
It probably won't happen, but we can live in hope.

Cheers

A resolution to the matter:

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa/19091756/prison-for-drunk-qantas-passenger/

"A Qantas passenger whose behaviour was described by a Perth magistrate today as drunken, aggressive and obnoxious will spend four months behind bars and has been left with a $40,000 bill to cover the cost of fuel dumped during an emergency landing for his arrest."

Yay...finally a magistrate with ba11s (even if it was a female one :-)). All this criminal will do is plead bankruptcy to get out of the fine but at least some jail time might smarten him up!
