The airport company has to protect its main bread and butter income carparking revenue at all costs. So will impose a big increase on the access levy to the skybus if the dedicated bus lane for it goes ahead. They not concerned for the travelling public taking 3 times as long to reach the airport during peak times.

Jarden summed it up - the airport needs to protect its car park income as much as possible.
Mind you, the Skybus is great - very reliable, quick, probably a little expensive but worth it.

I think the thing that I dislike most is that for airport workers that don't drive to work are being charged a mint to use the service, I had a similar experience living in Sydney with high fares to use the airport line to get to work however the service times and frequency were all good up there.
If skybus were more reliable in peak times I'd be more partial to forking out the amount they want, but honestly, it's not worth it.

There is a fairly large dedicated Staff Car park at Melbourne already, its only $2 per day.

I know but my point was directed mainly for those who don't drive to work, and besides the car park fills up easily

The lack of public transport options at Melbourne Airport amazes me sometimes.. the skybus is way overpriced and it's pretty annoying to pay the fare and then find yourself having to stand. I for one am glad Sydney at least has railway stations at both international and domestic even though they are expensive options as well

There is the option of both the smart bus and the Tullamarine bus company services to both broadmeadows and essendon...
