QF176 diverted to Cairns
CI 053 diverted to Sydney
QF 500 did a missed approach.

RVR was done to 480 metres but currently around 780 metres.

Plenty of holding and possible other diversions

Was quite bizzare, RVR was 1200m at around 0630 when Korean came in, but down to 720m at 0800 - now back up to 1200m at 0840.

Just out of curiousity, how often does Cairns take diversions of 747-400 or other large aircraft such as Airbus 330 or Airbus 340?

A second question I have pertains to visibility. Under Category 1 ILS, which I think applies at most Australian airports, I think 800m of visibility is required. I have heard Sydney newspapers give this figure, 800 metres visibility at decision height of 200 feet. If anyone on the board can comment on this, or give me some feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it.

That is correct Les. 800m vis and 200ft decision height are required for Category 1 ILS installations.

800m vis and 200ft decision height are required for Category 1 ILS installations.

Provided it has Cat 1 approach lighting as well, otherwise the vis is I think 1200m

We require 1500m on Runway 34L in Sydney due to the lack of HIALs.
