Twenty-two people on a Qantas flight from South America were struck down with a gastro intestinal illness.

Qantas confirmed that a number of passengers were struck down with an illness during flight QF 28 from Santiago that landed about 5:15 pm on Thursday.

The airline says the passengers were travelling as a group, and that the illness was contracted before the plane took off.

"The aircraft has been met by medical staff to look after the unwell passengers," Qantas said in a statement.

The passengers have been placed in quarantine.

Sounds like the Tour Group had a dodgy meal on the way to the airport.

Would they typically quarantine the aircraft for disinfection before sending it out on the next flight?

Probably depends on what Quarantine had to say.

I wonder what 'being placed in Quarantine' involves these days?

I would suspect that the Aircraft would need a good cleaning and disinfecting though, not to mention a good dose of fresh air. Would not have been a pleasant trip for all the passengers when barf bags are being frequently used and beelines being made for the toilets.
