Don't be overcome by the glitz and apparent glamour of going straight to an airline jet job (referring to cadetships like Jetstar).

Aviation can be a long and rewarding career that can give you invaluable experience, if you're willing to explore it and don't just aim for the right hand seat of a jet.

I've been flying commercially now for over 9.5 years. I've done scenics, outback charter in singles, outback charter and RPT in piston twins, freight, aeromedical, and only now have I decided to move onto an airline career, after 5,000hrs of flying. I have 150% enjoyed every minute of my career and would not take back any of it.

So I'd urge you, that when the time comes, go out and make the most of your career and enjoy it. You'll earn some invaluable aviation and life experience.

Some wise words there... Definitely don't rush it Callum you're 14 and can't go solo till you're 16. As for tips, well...take each stage as it comes. It'll be a few more years after you go first solo to get your CPL and then at 21 to get your ATPL.

Plenty of time and don't let your school work get in the way of flying. But nit pick your instructor. That's what they're there for.

The age may change to 15 instead of 16.

Blue side up, green side down. Stay in the centre of the air, don't go too close to the edges of the air which are water, trees, buildings or space.
