AN AIRCRAFT involved in firefighting operations has crashed west of Ulladulla, the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has confirmed.

Crews, including a rescue helicopter, are still responding to the scene.

There are reports a wing snapped off the 802 waterbomber aircraft before the crash, according to the ABC.

There is no further information available at this stage, the NSW RFS said in a post on its Facebook page.

There is a 3811ha bushfire burning out of control at Wirritin Ridge, 36km west of Ulladulla, according to the most recent post on the NSW RFS website at 4pm yesterday.

Ulladulla is located 180km south of Sydney.

Unfortunately it's been confirmed the pilot died in the crash.

Aircraft was VH-TZJ, a PZL M-18A Dromader. My thoughts go out to Mr Black's family & co-workers at Rebel Ag.
