They seem to have been talking about this stuff for twenty years. Now Badgerys is back in the news. I wouldn't be interested in flying into there. What are the chances of YSSY being expanded (ie, extra runway out in the sea, as was once proposed) to help handle inevitable airport activity and expansion as Sydney grows?

It is unlikely that there will be more infrastructure created at Kingsford-Smith. All of the 'studies' seem to indicate that with Sydney's population growth occurring out in the west, & with the traffic restrictions & curfew at KS, a western situated airport is the 'long term' solution.
Abbott wants to create some 'legacy' infrastructure (as he is unlikely to be remembered as a diplomat, going by his 1st 3 months as PM !), so Badgerys Creek is well & truly back on the drawing board. Even if the MP's made a decision tomorrow, it will be the best part of 15 years before the 1st aircraft crosses the threshold.

I watched the International terminal from 5am to noon from Rydges[room 805..planespotting] & the terminal is saturated inside/outside from 6am to 9am ,already.Plus the freight terminals next door are flat out all day/night & take up 1/3 of the limited space at the International terminal.

So, with that level of activity, BC is warranted, but how does YSSY cope in the meantime? Badgery's may literally not be open until 2030.

Good Question...
Last Night UA had issues with a landing spot at SYD (as passengers were told in LAX) with an extra flight from LAX due to a previous MX at LAX. Took a flight swap of UA839 to UA1752 departure times to resolve it.
I wonder if this is why the other day UA had UA1750 LAX-SYD perform a day flight arriving at ~8:30pm rather than the overnight.
