Hi all,

I've recently picked up what apparently are known ground station sources hex ID's 7cf7ca and 7cf7cb. What I was surprised to see is that they had transponder codes assigned, 7712 (ca) and 7722 (cb). Does anyone know what exactly those transmitters are and what they are used for?

Cheers

- Balt

Possibly VeeLo's (vehicle locators) on ground vehicles capable of being used on runways and/or taxiways.

More info can be found here

Thanks Nigel, that looks like it might be it. However, there's no position squitter for any of those. That's not making very much sense?

No position squitter? What do you mean?

I'm only picking up the hex ID and transponder code. No position information or call sign is in the extended ADS-B squitter.

Balt, they are some of the Sydney Airport radar site monitors and have been around for some years now. These are the only ones that I can pick up because of their height about sea level.

SSM1 7CF7CA 7712 Centrepoint Tower
SSM2 7CF7CB 7722 Centrepoint Tower
SSM3 7CF7CC 7727 Kurrajong Heights
SSM4 7CF7CD 7717 Razorback

If you have access to PlanePlotter, there are enough MLAT sharers in the Sydney basin to do a fairly good plot on their positions.
