TIGER Airways has reduced its services between Melbourne and Darwin by three flights per week.

A statement issued by the low-cost carrier said the decision to cut weekly flights to the Northern Territory capital from seven to four would take effect from September.

It said the decision was due to "seasonal demand".

It did not mention the recent spike in oil prices which has led to airlines cancelling services worldwide.

Tiger Airways Australia managing director Chris Ward said passengers affected by the changes would be offered a full refund or be able to change their travel date at no extra cost.

"We are committed to the Northern Territory for the long term and Darwin remains Tiger Airways' longest domestic route," Mr Ward said.

He said the cut to Melbourne-Darwin services would not impact on the airline's expansion plan to other destinations.

interesting, MEL-DRW-SIN must not be doing that well for this cut then? Or maybe they are trying to focus on MEL-PER-SIN?

How many flights will they have in the Wet Season?

Are the 2 J* services (DWN-SIN) both Australian based aircraft?, or is one based in Changi? Same with crews-are they both J* Australia Crew or one J*Asia and the other J*Aus crew?

Also odd that JQ58/62 are only 1hour30mins difference, not much variety!
:)

All JQ services to and /or via Darwin are Australian based aircraft; ADL/DRW/ADL, BNE/DRW/BNE, MEL/DRW/MEL, MEL/DRW/SIN vv SYD/DRW/SGN vv and CNS/DRW/SIN vv.

Seems like VH-JQE, VH-JQH & VH-JQW are a favourite on the CNS-DRW-SIN route, don't know why.

Due to their full sized aft galley which greatly increases storage space for international service items. Those 3 aircraft have 3 less seats as a result (174). The other A320s with the usual half size aft galley and 177 seats can still operate to SIN though - I literally just got home from SIN-DRW-MEL on VH-VQP. When you've got a lot more catering loaded and international products like the comfort/blanket packs, the larger galley down the back is handy.
