G'day Andrew,
Darwin has a few spots, however most are not that great for photography, unless you've got a nice big telephoto lense.

The easiest one to access would be a large area looking down Runway 29. It's on Amy Johnson Avenue.

Another spot is just beside the control tower, however, viewing is limited. Probably more for rotations half way down the runway, maybe some apron area, but that's it.

Apart from those 2, there's not really much else. Just be wary though, Darwin Airport is an RAAF Base, and is patrolled by Military Security. So just be careful getting around to odd spots around the airfield perimeter.

Fair bit of GA activity in Darwin, however all GA area's are surrounded by high fences like the rest of the airfield.

Or better yet, you could try out Ducks Nuts, Shennanigans, Vodka Bar, Discovery, Lost Ark, or even Beachfront Hotel out in Rapid Creek on Casuarina Drive. They all beat Darwin Airport hands down, :D.

Cheers

Chris

Andrew you have missed out on all the fun... over the last few weeks Exercise Pitch Black was on and there was heaps of stuff from overseas particpating through Darwin...

I second Chris's recommendations - there are windows in the terminal that overlook the runway - offers okay views. GA area is easily accessible and great views - and plenty of action.

And watch for the FEDS!
