SMH has a set of 8 photos too:

NathanJ 12th August 2013 07:14 PM

The white engines look odd...

Nathan Long 12th August 2013 07:58 PM

The wings and tailplane are white too...

Thomas Collins 12th August 2013 08:04 PM

They're unable to paint the engines.

Lukas M 12th August 2013 09:10 PM

BA has blue engines for some reason.

Adam W 13th August 2013 05:08 AM

Jetstar have GE engines, BA have Rolls Royce engines.

Rowan McKeever 13th August 2013 08:58 AM

Qatar have GE and at least some of theirs have grey engines. From what I've read the engine casing is the same for both GE and RR and the issue with paint is to do with laminar flow. I think the white looks silly but perhaps VKA's engine casings were painted before Boeing approved 'colours other than white'? Maybe silver or grey will come with later deliveries? Also I think the white wing and tail surfaces don't affect the 'look' of the plane ('the vibe of the thing'!?) because their horizontal surfaces so a little less visible.

Joe Frampton 13th August 2013 09:06 AM

Let's hope for no battery incidents on this beauty... any black marks will be rather visible on that nice white body... :D

Thomas Collins 13th August 2013 11:09 AM

The body is grey?

Ash W 13th August 2013 05:54 PM

I thought it was silver actually! Point though grey, white, silver, whatever we all know what Joe was saying.

Julian L 13th August 2013 06:26 PM

From what I have heard, only white and grey are approved for the laminar flow, but customers can choose other colours at a drag penalty.

Kurt A 14th August 2013 12:44 PM

Nice pic from the air.

I think you will find the requirement, or more to the point recomendation for white or grey applies to the engine cowling, not the body, which is what was being disucssed. Something to do with paint thickness and as you mentioned laminar flow.

Rowan McKeever 14th August 2013 01:47 PM

Yeah that's right Ash, from what I've read it's about the engine cowling and it's the number of coats required to get the darker colours like BA blue, makes the paint layer thicker obviously and disrupts the laminar flow.

Yeah I was talking about the engines, I didn't mean the colours for the body.
My mistake, wash't clear enough

Does anyone know the delivery schedule ie:

Pre-first flight checks (days)
First flight (date)
Jetstar pre-delivery checks
Aussie arrival date (proposed)

After the initial domestic service, is there a possibility Jetstar will operate
Mel - Auckland by April 2014?

This sector was to be operated by QF, but has since changed to JQ213
(Booked on this flight as we depart for our Honeymoon to Bora Bora :D)

Greg Hyde 15th September 2013 03:40 PM

Currently making its first flight

Jetstar Dream Terminal

As part of the B787 introduction, Jetstar is hosting a "Dream Terminal" in Cairns, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney.

The terminal provides visitors with an authentic Dreamliner experience and includes seat displays, interactive window and giveaways.

Details can be found here.

Lukas M 23rd September 2013 11:27 AM

According to AusBT, 7th October it will be delivered and begin its flight home.

Rowan McKeever 24th September 2013 11:41 AM

On 23 Sept (factory time) VKA performed a B-3 and a C-1 flight.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE215

B-3 is the 3rd Boeing test flight, C-1 is the first time with a JQ crew handling the aircraft!

Arthur T 27th September 2013 02:00 PM

If the delivery date is early October, I just wondering has there been any schedules about the training and domestic flights yet?

Thanks.

Greg Hyde 27th September 2013 04:55 PM

Nothing on the Jetstar site last time I looked.

They are keeping things very quite.

No seat maps as yet.

Expect the big reveal on arrival.

Thomas Collins 27th September 2013 09:07 PM

Details will be released soon.

Nigel C 28th September 2013 05:25 AM

At present there are no domestic bays on T2 at YSSY that can handle the B787, so I don't expect we'll see it here until it starts internatonal ops. Bay 49 is still B747 capable, so that may become an option in future. Alternatively, Bay 13 at T3 is already set up for B787 ops, so perhaps Qantas may come to the party if needed?

Let's hope not.

Michael Cleary 28th September 2013 09:43 AM

What stops a 787 from using another gate?

Nigel C 28th September 2013 10:52 AM

Size (for both length and wing tip clearance for other bays), no stop bar markings on the ground, aerobridge clearance from engines etc, NIG calibration, refuelling hydrant points can also come into play, equipment clearance and storage areas, pedestrian walkways etc.

In essence, the CADD department need to make sure they can meet all the required standards for use on any particular bay (this process gets done for all aircraft on all bays), and if restrictions are needed for that or adjacent bays, then they will be spelt out in the apron operating procedures.

Sam D 28th September 2013 11:53 PM

Will Jetstar introduce any new routes with the 787? If so, where? If not, what current routes are they gonna increase capacity?
Or will Qantas be the ones making the new routes. Im aware all Jetstar A332's are going to Qantas once all the 787s are delivered, which hints what destinations will receive the 787. Yet again, will these A332's off to Qantas supply new routes?

Max C 29th September 2013 07:24 AM

It's been said that the B787's will replace the JQ A332's which, when sent to QF will replace the B763's.

I'd imagine that wherever the JQ A332's go now, the B787's will go in the future. Any route expansion will probably not happen until the A332 fleet has been replaced.

Only 10 A332's and 5 738's to replace 16 B763's means there won't be much, if any new flights anytime soon.

There's a few 717s as well :D

Max C 29th September 2013 01:36 PM

Yep, and they're replacing the last 5 734's.

Currently net fleet growth is pretty much zilch.

Not to mention the upcoming 744 retirements and the fact that once the A330's go in for their cabin refurb, they'll be at least 1 frame short for a year or so.

Steve S... 2 29th September 2013 01:40 PM

There are 8 x 737-800's to come.

VH-XZI to VH-XZP.

That are essentially replacing the remaining 734's.

So really no new capacity at Qantas domestic, just JQ A330s's and new 738's to replace 763 and the 717's will see the end of the 734's.
