Low flying 747
Just wondering if anyone with radar or some sydney guru's can tell what 744 passed over nowra at about 1500 local.
Was quiet low, if it was qf63 to jnb i'm guessing it was running pretty late. But normally even that flight passes over at about 20,000ft. Unfortuneatly i wasn't quick enough to grab the camera to get a shot of it. Cheers Adam |
Was it definately a 747?
Nowra doesn't really see any 747 traffic other than QF63 which departed at approx 10am today so that wasn't it. What direction was it headed in? |
After a little bit of research the aircraft flew into YSCB at flight FJI1, B744. Air Pacific government flight?
|
I don't know if this sheds any light on it:
DQ-FJK SQ0001 14/05/2009 14:31 Air Pacific B747-412 -------- DQ-FJC operated the NAN service today. |
There definitely wasn't any 747 at Canberra today to the best of my knowledge.
|
I have seen at another forum that FJI1 was due in at MEL at 1530 today, as to the reason for it i don't know.
|
Aircraft was flying in a southerly direction and was unusally lower than normal.
If it was the FJII flight then it was obviously on descent to canberra. But if it was on descent to canberra then why so far north east? I didn't see it till i walked outside. And only saw the backend of the aircraft and yep certainly was a 744 or 743. ok update to this, i found this info on 16right.com.....VH-OEJ QF0000 14/05/2009 14:10 Qantas B747-438(ER) ** Route Unknown ** if you roughly add the time to taxi and takeoff, then fly to nowra it could roughly put this aircraft overhead nowra at the time mentioned. Cheers Adam |
From the weather request it looks like the Air Pacific SQ001 flight was going to Melbourne (unles YMML was an alternate).

Correction it didn't land at Canberra, the altitude on Webtrak said 3,048m obviously that was incorrect.
|
DQ-FJK B744 NAN-MEL FJI1 (damaged and flew at 10000ft unpressurised)
From an email I got, so there is your answer for both questions. |
So i take its in MEL to visit JH for repairs?
And what caused the damage? does anyone know? |
still i have to ask the question why come so far east and south of wollongong off track when being unpressuriesd.
Why not travel the usual route, or is it to do with lower safe alt's? Cheers Adam |

Well then the Webtrak altitude of 3,048m was correct as that is approx 10,000'. Very interesting.
|
Nick, I have replayed some of my own flights around the Sydney area and always found the WebTrak altitude to correspond closely with the actual altimeter in the aircraft.
|
The return flight maybe ....
