as i am just new here, i take it that it is at Sydney airport?
also how do i become involved in this? like cost and what not?

will there ever be a MEL spotting day?

thanks heaps :)

Mick F 22nd November 2008 09:04 PM

Joseph, it's pretty cheap, only about $100 for the weekend (plus all your accommodation, flights, food, drinks, etc.). Payable to myself prior to the event, :).

There has been a MEL spotting day around the end of November, might be a bit of short notice but if the weather looks alright next Saturday maybe we could organise something.

Mick F 22nd November 2008 09:37 PM

Nigel C 24th November 2008 11:04 AM

I've not made an appearance yet, so most people won't know if they're missing anything!;)

"He's" a figment of your / others imagination ;)

Mick F 24th November 2008 09:10 PM

He's one of the famous "C" clan.

Tell you what, after watching that episode of Top Gear (UK) tonight, I will definitely be in attendance for the live stage show. So I dare say I may even make an appearance at a bar near you that weekend.

What's this "again" nonsense Browneye? I have a feeling this year will see someone else other than myself or Floody receiving the blue light limosuine service ;)

Tim Bowrey 26th November 2008 03:50 PM

So whats the deal as i have never been to one of these Spotting Weekends before. You rock up at some time of day to the location, meet some people and stuff? Morning at mound and arvo at Beach or somthing? I just need to get my barings on what happens. Can someone give me the rundown on the days activities and what will be happning?

Cheers

Raymond Rowe 26th November 2008 06:55 PM

Spot by day drink copuos amounts of drink of a night. Stay up real late. Get up early next morning feeling like crap. Then spot again on the sunday.

Stephen Brown 26th November 2008 07:00 PM

There's usually some sort of police involvement, strange photos of the airport taken at some really strange times, Krispy Kreme cops a hiding, a Saturday night nosh up, familiarity with whatever airlines cabin crew we can find.

Just a generally great time with a bunch of geeks who like planes.

Don't worry, we haven't lost anyone yet (although Granny went close).

Tim Bowrey 26th November 2008 07:02 PM

Haha cheers Raymond and Stephen it sounds like a great time! So are the spotting days like 6am-8pm kinda thing because im deffinatly up for that!

Ahhh yes, with each year comes new adventure... The same theory applies to the Spotting Weekend...

Always looking to take things to the next level!

And this all depends on what time the AV8 bar wants to put up with us for...

;)

Mick F 26th November 2008 07:26 PM

First light on Saturday the 7th is 0555, spotting begins then, last light is 2023, spotting finishes then, however, the pub opens from around 10am, so spotting for some of us finishes at 0959, and the night finishes around 0400-0500 (depending how long you last).

Sunday the 8th, first light is 0556, spotting begins then, last light is 2022, however the pubs again, will be open early enough to finish spotting well and truly before last light. This generally sorts out the men from the boys, as many of them are wearing hangovers and lack of sleep from the night before, however a big serving of Krispy Kreme fixes this easily (good luck keeping them down).

I may be in attendance, however I don't think I'll be around for spotting activities. I spend too much time at airports as it is, :(.

Mick
