Thanks for the info Gerald. :)

So I'm guessing most folks will be out there by around 7am? Let's hope this time there won't be the parking/traffic problems that occured for SQ's first commercial flight. :)

Indeed. I just edited my post and brought the arrival forward to the earliest possible time assuming a straight up run out of WSSS. I don't want to get blamed for people being late!!

You're right, I reckon it might do a flyover or two...

Tsen Tsan 21st September 2008 12:44 AM

As mentioned, arrived SIN 20R at 1845 hrs local time, following a Swiss A343.

Philip Argy 21st September 2008 08:30 AM

Surprise!

Yes - I was just taking the dog for a walk 'before' it arrived and saw it cross Cockatoo Island at about 2500 feet on a heading of about 140 degrees at 08.15.

By the way, what's the reason for the sixty zero eight flight number?

Jerome B 21st September 2008 08:51 AM

She just flew over Balmain heading west

Philip Argy 21st September 2008 08:52 AM

Bob C 21st September 2008 10:59 AM

Hi Mark

Terrific shot and I'm wondering where you took it from and the equipment you used ?

I'm travelling to Sydney in two weeks and plan to spend a few days spotting and hopefully fill in many empty spaces in my photo albums.

Cheers

Bob

Mark T 21st September 2008 11:48 AM

Thanks Bobby. I was parked just inside the gate on Qantas Drive. You can see thi location on the following site:

I was using a Canon 450D with a 70-200mm 4L IS lens

Cheers

Video - 38.4MB

My very rough video of OQA ("Qantas sixty zero eight") crossing the Parramatta River on final to RWY 16R:
http://www.argystar.com/argystar/002.MOV

Sorry for the poor quality - will have to practise a bit more to make these better given my [once filming] fixed zoom fixed focus camera!

The quicktime video needs to be viewed as small as possible to make up for the graininess. If you do that you'll be rewarded with what are almost distrails in its own vapour clouds off the back of the wings.

Carl F 21st September 2008 01:04 PM

Grahame, were you one of the guys who jumped out of the patrol car in the fluro vest and ran up the mound? It was quite funny to see from Qantas Drive.

Grahame Hutchison 21st September 2008 01:08 PM

Not me Carl, no fluro vest, I was parked in the canal side reserve just off Qantas Drive with the other 50 cars. I did take a couple of shots off my ladder on the grass mound to the east, and then around near the hanger the A380 was towed to.

Carl F 21st September 2008 01:17 PM

Good spot by the looks of it, where exactly is it?

Grahame Hutchison 21st September 2008 01:21 PM

Carl, Go to www.16Right.com then Spotting from the Menu and Qantas Drive. The grass mound is just east along Qantas Drive in the first photograph.

Dan Collins 21st September 2008 01:24 PM

Looks like a lot of us were up at Qantas Dr. Really happy with the 16R landing. You've seen all these before, but I thought I'd share...

Credit to my Dad for most of these. I was shooting video while he was taking photos. A couple of the shots here were taken from my video camera.
