Qantas A330 incident YSSY 05.12.08

Hi all,
Just had a txt message saying a QF A330 is "in the dirt" between T2 and RWY 25.

Would eyeball mk1 or 2 like to comment further?

Cheers
Wayne

 "If she wants to drive let her......"

Depending on what time it was it'd be EBK or QPF both arriving late tonight as QPF from HKG and EBK from Perth.

Would you assume itd be there still tomorrow morning?(depending on the damages of course)

***EDIT*** Sorry, EBK was acctually going to Perth as QF583 to chances are it was QPF from Hong Kong according to 16Right.com ACARS.

Neither www.news.com.au or www.smh.com.au have any mention of such incident. Eyeball MKII is on holidays with Eyeball MKI.

QF A330 was being towed down Charlie onto Golf. It was dark and the tug took it onto Bravo 6. Bogged there with the right main gear in dirt. Happened about 9pm last night.

Anthony J 6th December 2008 10:34 AM

That would explain why QFA0021 was delayed until this morning!

The whole airport is built on sand. As soon as you leave the paved areas, you are asking for trouble.

The question is, how did it happen?

Ten News reported this incident tonight. The video footage showed the tail of the new QF livery, I guess its a A330-200.

Apparently the aircraft was being towed to the gate and the pin that connects the tow truck and the front gear of the aircraft felt off.

Wouldnt have feel off, the pin would have broken as it is designed to do.

Oh well, you could barely blame Qantas for that one.

I think Phil M's post answers that one for you.

I guess that depends on the accuracy of Phil M's statement really!

Phil M 7th December 2008 08:30 AM

Corporate Spin. Someone getting paid a lot of money came up with the "tow bar pin shear" excuse.

Truth is, it probably did break... because it was trying to pull an A330 out of the dirt.

Karl M 7th December 2008 11:26 AM

Hear that it was actually a tow bar break.

Nigel C 7th December 2008 11:45 AM

Was that before or after the right main gear got bogged on the turn-in to Bravo-6 (a Code C taxiway) as per Phil M's post?

Saw that it wasn't.

And after Joyce's speech today,

comes this ... ... Smell a conspriacy anyone??

It was all resolved relatively quickly - there were no passengers on it, there was no inconvenience to any passengers
Wasn't QF21 delayed until the next morning?
