Callsign question?

Just heard a callsign of "Spotter 267".

What sort of plane uses that callsign? It was heading out Lithgow way i think.

That'd be one of the firespotting aircraft, which one I don't know...

Where's Bob Bell when you need him???

Adam P. 3rd February 2009 03:46 PM

Google Cache is my friend.

Spotter 267 = Cessna 180 VH-DLB (operated by Curtis Aviation from Camden)

Gerard M 3rd February 2009 10:11 PM

Thanks Adam. I remembered that list but couldn't remember where i'd seen it.

I'm going to push my luck and see if anyone knows what was using Neptune 273 today as well?
Ive tried googleing it but didn't turn up anything? Possibly a plane from Temora?

Thanks

Gerard

Probably Neptune VH-IOY of HARS based at Albion Park. It departed yesterday afternoon for somewhere over the escarpment west of Wollongong.

Thanks Nigel.

The Neptune flew up to Richmond to commemorate a crash of a Neptune there 50 years ago.

I think its been asked before but a search turned up no results, but who uses the callsign Hudson?

Cheers
Gerard

NickN 15th May 2009 02:21 PM

Callsign "Hudson" is used by 32SQN from memory.

Gerard M 20th May 2009 04:13 PM

Thanks Nick, didn't see this reply.

Also, i'm hearing Tiger79 heading up to Sydney via the coast, am i right to presume that its the Army Tiger?

There was an RAAF Kingair A32-339 departed yesterday with "Hudson 05" as its callsign.

Gerard M 20th May 2009 06:22 PM

Well its official then. Hudson for the RAAF kingairs. Thanks Nigel. I always thought that the army and air force KingAirs used the same call sign, Redback.

Steve V 21st May 2009 12:10 AM

I think the most likely suspect for Tiger79 is a Navy Seahawk, however 76sqn Hawk use this from time to time as well.

NickN 21st May 2009 08:56 AM

Not all the King Airs use "Hudson"..... as you stated many use "Redback".

It depends on which squadron they are attached to. Different squadron, different callsign.

Mick.B 21st May 2009 04:31 PM

Tiger is also used by 2OCU Hornets out of Willy.

Does anyone know why China Southern had their callsign as China Southern 326A (CSN326A) as their callsign today. Is the alpha for a bit of variety or does it stand for something like adding heavy onto the callsign?

Steve V 26th May 2009 11:10 PM

Re China Southern 326 Alpha.
Not sure if it's related but I have in the past heard BA use the suffix X-Ray, and Qantas use the suffix Delta, for flights which have been delayed such that there may be 2 flights with the same flight number in the ATC system at the same time. I believe the suffixes are added to avoid confusion. I assumed thay mean Extra and Delayed respectively (but could be way off). If this were the case with the China Eastern it may mean something like "additional" perhaps. Continental Micronesia always used to add the suffix Charlie to their flights, not sure why.
Steve

Michael Mak 26th May 2009 11:25 PM

I think CX used to add suffix Delta in the past, not sure what they are using now.

Didnt know that. If it is in fact the case. Rather interesting i guess either way. I've also heard Qantas use Super after the callsign usually on the 380.

Thanks for the help again people.

Gerard

Nigel C 28th May 2009 03:36 AM

Super would define the wake turbulence category for the aircraft. B747's at Sydney occasionally use the term 'Heavy' at the tail of their callsign, but I believe in some overseas countries it's part of the standard phraseology.

NickN 28th May 2009 09:01 AM

Super is a common addition to all A380 callsigns.

Nigel C 28th May 2009 01:28 PM

I've never heard Singapore use it for their on-ground pre-departure stuff; is it mentioned on Clearance Delivery? I can't remember hearing Emirates use it either...or the Antonovs...does anyone other than Qantas actually use it or am I just not listening at the time?

NickN 28th May 2009 01:45 PM

Yep they use it on apprach when calling the tower Nigel.

Nigel C 28th May 2009 03:03 PM

Ah ok...I'm normally glued to the ground freq's for most of the day and only hear the initial tower calls at around 0600 or during runway inspections when there are no A380's on approach.

Steve V 28th May 2009 03:10 PM

Does anybody know what Japan Air 500 was, about 11-12 this morning? Not one of their usual flight numbers.
Steve

Nigel C 28th May 2009 03:16 PM

That's probably "Jackpot ninety five hundred" (ZG9500) you heard. It's Viva Macau's B762 B-MAV. They departed at 1130.

Steve V 28th May 2009 04:01 PM

Thanks Nigel. That would have been it, I did only hear it out of the corner of my ear :-) !
Steve

Gerard M 15th June 2009 12:17 PM

Never mind, found out what it was later on.

Gerard M 15th July 2009 11:38 AM

Yet another call sign which i'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light on. Was out at Willy yesterday and heard on i think the tower frequency "Foxtrot 2 India Mike (F2IM)" several times but never saw it. Does anyone know what this would have been?

thanks in advance, again
