AN-124 14-15 Jan

I was just told by a sydney airport staff member that an AN-124 will be in on the 14 Jan ( approx 1930 ) and leave early the next morning. He also said there was a IL-96 in melbourne today. I guess if thats true, the AN-124 should be likely. Thought i'd pass this on. Cheers.

Jacob P 29th December 2010 08:05 PM

Hey Tom that was me,

The IL96 was actually due into MEL at 1900L tonight from memory.

Nigel C 29th December 2010 08:17 PM

If it's true, then so much for the Fed Govt's ban on so-called 'noisy' An124's.

Jacob P 29th December 2010 08:28 PM

Hey Nigel,

the An-124 did a few charters bout october/november this year to Cairns, Rockhampton and Perth I believe it was for the military exercise that was held in Rockhampton

That may be the case, but current regulations ban the An124 from Sydney from September 2010. There was a lengthy thread about it here http://yssyforum.net/board/showthrea...ighlight=An124

Hi Nigel,

Despite the ban that came in it should still be able to get in to Sydney. Someone mentioned it visited Perth not long ago where it is banned too. There are a bunch of exemptions which should allow it to come in especially the fact that nothing can really replace it. Even before the ban the An-124's could not visit Australia without special permits. Also if there was anything else that could do what the An-124 does then it could never visit Australia.

I'm sure you know this Nigel this is just incase anyone doesn't know, if this is true it should be allowed in regardless of the ban.

The "ban" on An-124's was lifted just last week (atleast on all VDA/ADB machines). Previously the flights would have had to of been of "national importance" (ie military or govt load)

Liam, is there a link available or a perhaps a press release? The DoTARS site appears to be void of any new announcements.

Thats correct Paul it arrived in Darwin from Singapore today. The speculation has been that its delayed in NOU due weather, yet spotted today in DRW.

Jayden Laing 15th January 2011 09:39 PM

Brian,
If you re-read Jacob P's post, you will find a departure time for when it heading to MEL.

arrrrr I see:eek:

Benny Zheng 16th January 2011 11:14 AM

So this plane has travelled from Central Asia to Australia. Wonder what's it carrying.

From the Singapore system it shows it landed in Singapore on 12th Jan @ 0821 from GYO. Departed Singapore on 15th Jan @ 0316 to Darwin. Initial plan was to take off to Darwin on the 13th. Flight number was VDA2034 for these two sectors, so i assume it will be the same for Sydney.

Andrew Coggan 16th January 2011 11:20 AM

So its stills scheduled to come in today at 1600? runways 16L/R are in use at the moment but the wind is meant to change to the north east :)

Nick W 16th January 2011 02:20 PM

Anybody know if it's still coming in

Shayne G 16th January 2011 02:21 PM

We should know very shortly.

JamesW 16th January 2011 02:48 PM

Not showing anything on PP or Mode-S reciever.
