CX 747-8F 'Hong Kong Trader' due in SYD Sunday

I searched, but couldn't find any other reference to this movement...

The first-ever 747-8F aircraft is planned to arrive SYD on Sunday afternoon as CX021. STA is 17:05. At the moment, the aircraft is planned to be the 'Hong Kong Trader' livery.

Happy spotting people!

Next one is planned for Tuesday.

So the one on Tuesday will continue down to MEL?

Stefan Perkas 26th November 2011 09:49 PM

Looking at the Schedules Oliver it should continue down to Melbourne. ETA should be 1415LT.

Nigel C 27th November 2011 04:05 PM

Arrived at 1651 Rwy 16R. Parked on Bay 5.

Now for the 40-odd photos... ;)

James S. 27th November 2011 04:45 PM

Boy she looked stunning! :)

Very quiet too, idle reverse thrust I believe? I also heard on the scanner that they couldn't take the rapid exit on 16R, does anyone know why?

Arjun M 27th November 2011 04:46 PM

Anybody got any idea what time she departs at all?

Thanks

Nigel C 27th November 2011 04:49 PM

1920 departure.

Perhaps they were carrying too much speed to commit to the rapid exit? Alfa-4 is certainly suitable for Code F aircraft.

Michael Mak 27th November 2011 04:57 PM

Is this the first B747-8 visit to SYD?

Nigel C 27th November 2011 05:06 PM

Sure is.

Michael Mak 27th November 2011 05:10 PM

Thanks Nigel :)

They did say it on final well before touchdown, but I suppose that could be the case. Perfectly normal touchdown, and yet they used idle reverse thrust, I think with a bit of reversers they could have made the Alpha 4 quite easily. But hey I'm not a pilot to judge! Just curious. ;)

Brian Wilkes 27th November 2011 05:52 PM

Im not 100%, but I think there is one due in next Sunday as well!

747

Nice photo.

Nigel C 27th November 2011 07:36 PM

It will be seen each Tuesday and Sunday in Sydney, and as Stefan posted, the Tuesday flight will continue to Melbourne. I believe this pattern will continue until around Christmas/New Year.

Dave Dale 27th November 2011 07:58 PM

Nice photo Andrew. Here's hoping for a 747-8I in Cathay colours in the future.

Brad Varney 27th November 2011 08:23 PM

Same as always, the sun goes behind the clouds just as something comes in.......

And then we will never see it again in SYD unless there is an adhoc charter that requires the 747-8F. I'm lead to believe that its only visiting Australia for CASA certification as CX want to use it on the Asia/USA routes.

Good work Andrew here is my effort, Brad should of been at the beach.....

Managed to capture her landing from Swamp Rd. Snuck up on the few spotters that were there. Really quiet as she flew over head. Only got one snapshot as I video'd her landing. Any other shots were blocked by the BA 777 lining up for 16R but I'm just glad to have been there!

Great shots from those down at the Beach, a much better spot to appreciate the paintjob and the length of the -8!

Well here are some from me.
I also wanted to get SQ 241 on approach as city rail had replacement buses which allowed me to go from the international terminal to central without paying huge fares haha.

Brad Varney 27th November 2011 10:02 PM

Haha I saw all of you up there.
Brilliant shots there Chris.

I saw that too, very long landing it seemed with reverse thrusters going off for longer then expected.

Here is one shot of the 747-8F. Enjoy

Did anyone else think that the hump looks really small because of the length of the thing ?
I know there the same size as the 744F's the hump i mean, the aircraft has now taken over as the longest aircraft from the A346...

Shayne G 27th November 2011 10:55 PM

Yeah Jaryd, it's a little out of proportion in my opinion. Same with the 747-8i, they look good but they will take some time to get used to because of the different dimensions etc.

Brad Varney 27th November 2011 11:19 PM

Haha I loved the chaos at the eastern park when we were all informed that arrivals had switched to 16, we all went racing off...

Bernie P 28th November 2011 12:09 AM

Here's a couple form me whilst we're at it!!!

Lee G 28th November 2011 12:14 AM

I'm not going to add to the multitude of photos of the landing ... some really good ones here - but the take off ......

Re the 748 not taking the high speed exit - it's probably part of the 'running in' process where they don't like to use full reverse unless absolutely necessary.

If you've got plenty of runway, why not use it?

Brian Wilkes 28th November 2011 05:00 PM

Going by HK arr/dep cargo site, tomorrows CX Cargo has been Cancelled !

Alexander.L 28th November 2011 08:04 PM

Info I got of a mate is that it's still on and it's arriving about 11am. Hoping it's LJE if that's the case....

Jaryd stock 29th November 2011 06:26 AM

It's B-LJA again today in around 10:30.... Not LJE unfortunately.

Jaryd stock 29th November 2011 12:02 PM

B-LJA just left for YMML.
