Go the SQ 747 - there will be future open days, there won't be anymore SQ 747s.

Zac M 19th February 2012 01:25 PM

The 744 departs at 1700, the airport open day finishes at 1330, there is a 1400 flight to Melbourne from Canberra....if you had enough money it would be possible to do both.

Hmmm :(
Parafield Airshow
Canberra Open Day
Last SQ 747

Does anyone know how to clone yourself. :D

Maikha Ly 19th February 2012 09:14 PM

Another QLink Charity flight on the agenda? I'll be in for that again! :)

Brad Varney 19th February 2012 09:30 PM

Just thinking.
Can you buy airline tickets eg JQ at the check in desk at the airport
if so, how old do you have to be.
Really want to see an SQ 747 before they leave (I missed them in Sydney)

I have booked myself on the last SQ 747 flight from SIN-HKG return for 6th April. Flying to Singapore return on a QF 747 from Brisbane. A great way to spend $2000 for four days!

I wll take some photos and do my first trip report highlighting the event. I belive 9V-SPQ is doing the final flight.

Dave

Shayne G 19th February 2012 11:38 PM

Looking forward to your report Dale! :D

I hope the last flight to Australia is not 9V-SPP for the Singapore B744. I'd personally like it to be 9V-SPJ that does the last flight here, but I expect its the one out of the last three due for retirement this month. It's quite a nice coincidence that the last 3 have all 3 different variations of the livery!

I too am considering going to Melbourne for the last flight as it is definately the end of an era!

Alex Lui 20th February 2012 05:47 AM

I don't believe it will be SPQ operating the last flight. IIRC it has been retired from the fleet and getting ready for Transaero in Russia. SPQ should be in Singapore at the airshow on static display and MAY be operating the SQ747/748 rotation on April 6.

SPP and SPJ are the only 2 747's left in the fleet at present. How sad... It was only like 8 years ago they had nearly 20+ 747's in the fleet.

Alex

The thought of spotting and taking photos of the last SQ flight out of Melbourne does sound enticing.

However, not familiar with the area, can anyone kindly offer any assistance, as to where would be a good spot to take photos in Tullamarine?

If there are good guidance, I might consider taking this special day trip to MEL and back.

Cheers,

Hendra

Here you go Hendra
Melbourne Airport

A Car will be required for all of them, you alway's have the option of taking photo's through the Terminal windows, but the results wont be the best at that time of the day

Hendra Barnes 21st February 2012 07:44 PM

David,

Can't thank you enough mate. Cheers for the info!

Aircraft on display include:
•Qantas 737
•QantasLink Q400
•Virgin Australia ATR 72
•Royal Australia Air Force Hercules C130-J
•Super Constellation “Connie”
•DC3/C-47
•Neptune Bomber
•Catalina flying boat
•Caribou
•Many more small aircraft and warbirds

Alex Lui 10th March 2012 09:15 PM

The 737 will be one with the new Sky Interior. Arrives as QF787, as always. I don't know what it will leave on, potentially to Brisbane? as Sydney and Melbourne flights leaving at 5 show a 734.

Unsure at this stage whether a charity flight will operate on the day.

•Caribou
Is this the Caribou that was put in the museum at Canberra or is a airworthy one going to be flown in?

While on this topic does any organisation currently have any airworthy Caribou's in Australia?
I know HARS aquired an Caribou or two but does HARS fly them?

Zac M 19th March 2012 06:37 PM

The HARS aircraft are registered VH-VBA and VBB I am pretty sure.

Does anyone know the regos of the attending aircraft (from Qantas and Virgin) or the arrival times of the HARS aircraft?

Alex Lui 21st March 2012 09:01 PM

Can anyone confirm whether there will be a charity flight going this year?

Todd?? :)

Zac M 25th March 2012 04:44 PM

The charity flight was awesome, operated by VH-QOP!

The 737 in attendance was VH-VZY, the ATR was VH-FVU which is not to Virgin's specifications which may explain why it is yet to enter service.

Alex Lui 25th March 2012 06:59 PM

Never got the chance to go on VZY!! :( Bus tour took too long. But yes, I would have to agree the charity flight was great. Nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Alex.

Jaryd stock 25th March 2012 08:06 PM

Was there any displays? Or was it just purely static aircraft on display......

Maikha Ly 25th March 2012 08:08 PM

I was planning to go, however was in Cowra all weekend for the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Annual Fly-In, and wouldn't have had enough time for the driver over to Canberra.

If anything, I'd only go for the Charity flight :)

Alexander.L 25th March 2012 08:14 PM

Jaryd there was a stunt plane at 10:30 and 12 I think.

Zac M 25th March 2012 08:32 PM

Matt Hall did the displays.
