Singapore Airlines launches new entertainment system across all cabins

Currently the new eX2 system is available on all three classes across its A380 and B777-300ER products, but the airline will look to further roll-outs in the near future.

With more than 180 TV programmes, over 700 music CD albums and audio books, video games, as well interactive learning programmes, all travellers can now watch these from their 1280 x 768 high-resolution screens.

“Being the first to launch the eX2, applications were introduced on a familiar platform and our immediate focus was to provide for a wide and comprehensive suite of applications,” said Yap Kim Wah, Singapore Airlines Senior VP Product and Services.

“This is to cater to the growing needs of our customers of varying ages. What you see now is only the beginning and more will be added.”

The new eX2 system will boast new PC applications such as Media Player, Photo View and PDS reader, which means that through the USB port travellers can load up their own personal media such as documents, movies, photos or music.

More enhancements to the entertainment system can be expected in coming months.

The new system is great! The screen will tilt enough so that you can still view it when the person in front reclines their seat.

I thought most screens had that feature, nathan?

the only issue with the times I have done it is sometimes it doesn't actually stay tilted and a napkin is needed to keep it ajar!

It is the one that's on the A380.

I flew on a 773 MEL-SIN with the old system and the person in front reclined their seat and I had to slide forward in my seat to see the screen (even with it tilted up). I have torso of someone that is around 6' 4" so it may have just been me that was unable to see the screen properly.

I wonder who will write the first computer virus for the system and introduce it via the USB port?

Maybe that explains why the system on AC is so buggy and unreliable! :eek:

thanks seems a bit strange to be putting a press release out so long after the product came out

If I am not mistaken this press release refers to the expansion of the service to other aircraft with in the SQ fleet? Its currently on -what is seen as SQ premium aircraft- A380 and 773 and will go to all other aircraft in the SQ fleet.

I wonder if they will update the 772/773 fleet that do not have any AVOD at all. I would say unlikely given a lot of these a/c will be retiring in the next 3-4 years (assuming the 787/350 ever arrive)
