I might visit the airport on Sunday, so it would be good to know.

Hi Hendra,

The KE B744's are permanent until March 2013. Gernally it is B772's over the winter and upgrade to B744's for the summer.

JAL No:2 engine not Running.

I didn't know where to put this post, but i have a question and it relates to JAL 777-246, JA711J Which landed yesterday (2/11/12). Here is a photo, in it you will notice that only one engine is running (No 1), the other has been shut down. Question is, is this a normal practice where one engine has been shut down whilst on final?

Thought I'd ask considering i don't look into the tech side of things.

Its just an optical illusion, notice how the left engine looks smaller than the right one.

It wouldn't be normal as both engines would be required in case of a go-around. If it had been shut down it would've been for tech reasons (ie vibrations, pressures, some other indication on the flight deck).

I was looking more at the screw, if you look at No:1 it's distorted because of the quick revolutions it obviously makes the white line blurry, but No:2 is clear and distinct so my thought was that it was shut down. I hope that makes sense.....

Rowan that's what I would've thought, or as a hypothetical, a bird strike in No:1 in which case No:2 would have to be on just in case.

You have just answered your own question because of the optical illusion making the right hand engine looking bigger the screw looks like its not moving and with the left engine looking smaller the screw looks blurry.Anyhow if it was landing on one engine there would have been fire trucks etc on standby and we would have heard something by now.

Fair enough thanks Paul.
