A passenger plane travelling from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia has crashed into the sea, according to the country’s search and rescue agency.

“It has been confirmed that it has crashed,” Yusuf Latif, a spokesman for the agency, said by text message, when asked about the fate of the plane.

Flight JT610 lost contact 13 minutes after takeoff, according to the official. The jet was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, which can carry up to 200 passengers, according to air tracking service Flightradar 24.

Flightaware sees it reaching around 5000-5200 feet then in a rapid decent

Reports indicate 189 PAX were on board, not good.

Two month old aircraft, delivered on August 13 to Lion Air, first crash for the MAX so will be interesting to see what the outcome of the investigation is, very sad to head that 189 people have passed away as a result of this however.

The speed/altitude graph on FR24 looks horrible, seems to be a lack of control from the getgo.

For those who haven’t seen it I’ve attached a screenshot of the speed/altitude graph, certainly is very erratic! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0136e0763d.jpg

News reports,

Floating debris, looks like all onboard lost.

MarkR 29th October 2018 05:24 PM

Thanks for posting the FR data Zac, cannot help but think what happened between 22.53. and 23.23 is the key, looks like a stall, but must remember that data is from one source, no the three pilots have onboard.

Greg Hyde 30th October 2018 11:38 AM

Reportedly had "technical problems on previous flight" which were rectified.
