Perth runway works
G'day folks,
Article in today's West Australian about the closure of runway 21/03 at YPPH for about 6 weeks from February 2010 due to resurfacing. SA and EK are apparently looking at substituting aircraft types during this time to somewhat offset potentially big payload restrictions. Runway 24/06 will be the go during this time. |
The airport was closed completely between 0030 and 0600 this morning for work on the intersection of the two runways.

^ Wow, great photo Tim, just for the effect of the 767 flashing by seemingly so close to the workers.
|
It was quite interesting landing on the shorter runway, an interesting approach, and taxi back to the terminal. We were on a full 330.

It must be a nice luxury to be able to close a runway completely to do the resheet...

Absolutely, and they have Sunday off as well!!
Would have thought a week day would be better (hmmm although it doesn't actually say they re-open the runway, the workers just get the day off... but the closed from 7am to 7pm indicates they do return it when not working.) |
Should be an interesting landing for me on QF777 (734) this Saturday but an even more interesting take-off on QF802 (763) the following Saturday. Will keep my eyes out for the runway workers....So would a morning landing/departure normally use 06 or 24 ?

You'd be amazed just how fast people can finish what they're doing and clear a runway when you point out the landing lights in the distance (not finals, but when the aircraft's below 10000') and remind them time's running out fast!
