A380 Movements - Australia

A380 to visit Adelaide on September 27 for only 25 minutes, then October 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16 and 17, with some of those dates having two visits a day.

I'll be in Adelaide on October 4 and 5, so if anyone has further information of the A380's arrival/departure times on those dates it would be much appreciated.

Super jumbo's first Adelaide pit stop
Article from: The Advertiser

September 18, 2008 12:30am

THE world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, will make its first visit to Adelaide next week – staying long enough to cool its brakes.
The first Qantas A380 is expected to arrive in Sydney on Sunday morning and land at Adelaide Airport on Saturday, September 27. The giant airliner is due to land at 12.15pm that day, park on the tarmac while its brakes cool and pilots re-set its flight computer, and depart shortly after at 12.40pm.

The Qantas A380 is listed to make a further 14 flights through Adelaide Airport after that – all as part of crew training flights before the plane goes into service later in October.

Its landing and take-off can be viewed from inside the main passenger terminal.

Photographers can get a good view from the observation area at the western end of the main runway, by Tapleys Hill Rd.

The A380 is due back in Adelaide on October 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16 and 17, some of those dates having two visits a day.

Neither Qantas or Singapore Airlines – which was the first to bring the A380 into service – have plans for regular services to Adelaide, the super jumbo being significantly larger than the Boeing 747.

Is it coming from Sydney and returning to Sydney or on its way to somewhere else such as Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne (or Kangaroo Island if it's doing short hops :p)

Paul C. 19th September 2008 12:56 AM

I wish I was still living in Adelaide. But I might go to Melbourne next month to see OQA's first service.

Robert Zweck 19th September 2008 04:11 PM

Rumour has it of a flyby of the MCG on Grand Final day

Adam Stone 21st September 2008 09:00 PM

Rumour has it departing Adelaide 12.40 and arriving Melbourne 14.30. Plenty of time for a fly over The G.

Joseph Saragozza. 21st September 2008 09:50 PM

thanks heaps for all your help.
i was just browsing through the QF website and i came across the live chat with Qantas Executive General Manager John Borghetti and he quoted this:

"The promotional visit to MEL is planned for 2 October - however the plane will also visit MEL as part of our pilot training flights - the first visit is planned for Thursday (25th)."

looks like ill try and go out on both days if i can :D

again thanks heaps, much appreciated

Lukas M - Thanks so much

Joseph Saragozza. 22nd September 2008 10:54 AM

lukas thats is great.
thanks so much.

dose anybody think MEL will open up their observation deck for any of these occasions?

Philip Argy 22nd September 2008 11:08 AM

I would quite like to see what flights are planned, including around Sydney - I assume it is not going to just sit in a hangar for the next 3 days?

Mike Y 22nd September 2008 11:13 AM

Fantastic thanks Lukas, apparently the Air China new special livery A330 is also scheduled to come in on Thurs 15mins after the A380, plus the current forecast for that day is sunny and warm, so we might have a perfect storm of positives happening here Thurs morning!

Subject to change of course…

Why not? Possible ground crew training/cabin crew famil?

Daniel W 22nd September 2008 03:27 PM

Sure is an ugly beast but the 380 hasnt looked better than in the QF colour scheme.

I have heard OQA will be in Perth on the morning of 14th October.....can anyone else confirm that?

JBorghetti said yesterday in the chat thing that it would be a 10:30am landing?

However if its 8am...rejoice! I can be a little late for school ;)

If it gets away on time from Adelaide at 1230, it could do an MCG flyover only minutes before the start of the game.

Part of the pre game entertainment???

Definetly.

Even the grand prix flyover this year was only about 10 or so minutes before Race Start.

Raymond Rowe 24th September 2008 06:46 PM

Is it still due into melbourne at 0730 tomorrow morning.

Andrew M 24th September 2008 07:59 PM

I'll be there at 7 :D

Mark T 25th September 2008 06:15 AM

VH-OQA just taxying to depart Sydney now as QF6006.

Cheers
Mark

Philip Argy 25th September 2008 07:48 AM

Are we there yet?

Someone should have confirmed arrival in MEL by now! Are our Southern brethren so tardy ...?

Blake Riley 25th September 2008 09:26 AM

just went over my house as Qantas 6007 into sydney from Melbourne.

Joseph Saragozza. 25th September 2008 09:34 AM

i just got home now from MEL and WOW!
what such a nice sight to see.
i got up bright and early this morning and the QF livery on the A380 looks stunning.
shame the camera is broken. hope the people i saw there today with their cameras took some nice shots that they could share with us.

Tim Bowrey 25th September 2008 09:35 AM

Landed 34L not long ago. Id love to see some pics from MEL which im sure we will see in no time;)

Sarah C 25th September 2008 09:38 AM

Yep, just touched down on 34L and rolled all the way to the end. It will be good to see any photos from Melbourne

Raymond Rowe 25th September 2008 09:39 AM

Arrived a little late into Melbourne was kept out to the west.Looked great on arrival and came in as QF6006.Shame that so many people only come out when a special occasion is happening and out there in all the weather conditions.

Sarah C 25th September 2008 09:59 AM

And it is taxiing to 34L again for take off.

Sarah C 25th September 2008 10:06 AM

Just took off and rotated right opposite the Mound so anyone there would have got a fabulous view. A SQ 747 was landing behind and almost caught up with it - it looked really slow at one point but it took off in time.

Benny Zheng 25th September 2008 10:11 AM

The A380 is on its way to Brisbane. QF6009. Arrival time 1132 as of now.

Kurt A 25th September 2008 10:26 AM

Eli mentioned to me that he'll be on 3 of the sectors today, practicing and briefing for the upcoming proving flights.

Cabin Safety staff are on board, so more training for FA's.

Noel White 25th September 2008 10:58 AM

Currently off the coast at Yamba.

Cheers,

Noel

Blake Riley 25th September 2008 11:31 AM
