PR A321neo to SYD

Surely this is an error? That’s a long way in a narrow body.

Philippine Airlines from July 2018 is introducing Airbus A321neo aircraft on Manila – Sydney route, operating along with the A330-300 aircraft. From 10JUL18, 2 of 7 weekly (Day 24 from MNL, Day 35 from SYD) will be operated by A321neo, increasing to 5 weekly from 25JUL18.

PR211 MNL2225 – 0845+1SYD 330 56

PR212 SYD1030 – 1650MNL 321 35
PR212 SYD1030 – 1650MNL 330 67

From 01DEC18 to 31JAN19, the A330 will once again operate this route on daily basis.

It’s within the range of the aircraft, not that I would be in a hurry to fly in one.

That's what the 321neo does. Looong narrowbody routes!

From the beginning of August Philippine Airlines is reverting back to A333s for its SYD flights. I wonder if this is an indication that the operation with narrow bodied A321s for a little over 12 months has not been competitive with the wide bodied A330s flown on this route by QANTAS and Cebu Pacific.

The item from Routes Online appears hereunder:

Quote:

Philippine Airlines in recent schedule update filed aircraft changes for Manila – Sydney route, as the airline once again schedules Airbus A330-300 aircraft on this route, replacing Airbus A321neo, from 01AUG19. Overall frequency will be reduced from 9 to 6 weekly.
