Call sign Question
 

Just a question that i've always wondered about.

When USAF AMC planes come in they use Reach as their call sign.
But when the weekly run comes out to Richmond, it uses "Reach-5-Echo-1"

Why do they use the "echo" and not just Reach and then the number?
