I too noticed that it made a dog-leg to the north about 100kms north west of Alice Springs so that's a long way to divert to Darwin.

Perhaps the Alice can't accept A380s or maybe the required facilities (ie medical / technical ?) are not available either.

Medical diversion!

Rowan McKeever 11th October 2012 10:10 PM

Hi Bob. Alice is A380 capable and set up as an alternate, but I suspect by the time the diversion plan for Alice was activated it would be just as easy to divert it to Darwin. Bear in mind Alice's last RPT movement is at 1730 each night, whereas Darwin is 24hr! Cheers, Rowan

Confirmed from family on board a medical diversion. OQB now climbing through FL15 so appears the affected PAX was dropped off and the A/C has moved off pronto.

How would this affect connections in SIN?

James

James according to QF website the DRW stop was 1hr exactly and QF1 SIN-LHR will ops with approx 1.5hr delay

That is pretty impressive that the diversion only cost an hour.

Rowan McKeever 12th October 2012 09:56 AM

I agree Sarah, especially at an airport which has never handled an A380! An hour of ground time and a total delay of just under 2 hrs isn't too shabby at all!

Grahame Hutchison 12th October 2012 10:39 AM

Most importantly, the patient probably received the best medical care in the shortest possible time.

Sarah C 12th October 2012 11:43 AM

Agree Graeme - hopefully the passenger is OK.
