Sydney SBS Log - 30 January
I've been perusing the Sydney SBS log for Friday 30 January posted on another site and noticed that only one Virgin Australia International flight appears - VH-YIQ operating VA67 to DPS.
There were 14 Virgin Australia International flights yesterday according to the Sydney Airport Arrivals and Departures board so I find the omission of the other flights quite odd. The flights to New Zealand and destinations in South East Asia are usually operated by VH-YI registered B737s and those to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi by B777s. Would anyone know the reason (s) for these omissions ? Cheers Bob |
Well I picked up VH-YIE doing VOZ70, VH-YIG doing VOZ64 and VOZ63, VH-YIQ doing VOZ67.

Thanks Robert ; so maybe there might be a problem with the other guy's system.
And I just had a thought ; I'll check Grahame's 16Right ADSB site as well. Cheers Bob |
Some more research disclosed that most of the flights were operated by ZK- registered B737s.
VH registered jets operayed the following : B777 VOZ operated VOZ1 and 2 ; YIG VOZ63 and 64 ; YIQ VOZ67 and YIE VOZ70. I should have realised that the ZK B737s would have been prevalent on the East coast but not for much longer as they will all be taking up VH registrations shortly. I believe that ZK-PBA flew its last service on 29 January and will be taking up VH-VOO. |
Bob, My ADS-B logs show ...
VH-YIE did Christchurch VH-YIG did Denpasar VH-YIQ did Denpasar VH-VOZ arrived from Los Angeles on 30th and departed back to Los Angeles again VH-VPD departed to Los Angeles on 29th VH-VPE departed to Abu Dhabi on 29th and returned on 31st VH-VPF returned from Los Angeles on 31st and departed to Abu Dhabi VH-VPH departed to Los Angeles on 28th |
Hi Grahame
Thanks for your reply. I did my follow up research on 16Right and solved the problem. The posts on the other site are usually very good so when I went looking further also found the ZK regos operating the missing flights so his system was accurate as well.My initial search skills were inaccurate and I was also probably put off by thinking that the YI registered aircraft did the Tasman flights as they generally do all the PER-DPS and PER-HKT flights. Cheers Bob |
By the looks of it, I would say the YI block will take up all the INTL flying to make fleet identification easier, and after their refits the ex-ZK- birds will end up on Dom runs...
