Garuda to begin Sydney and Melbourne Jakarta Flights

Afternoon all,

Quote:

Passengers from Sydney and Melbourne will soon be ableto fly to Jakarta with Garuda Indonesia. The airline’s Denpasar-Sydney services will fly Denpasar-Sydney-Jakarta from May 1. Two of Garuda’s weekly flights from Melbourne to Denpasar will also extend to Jakarta from May 4. The airline already operates services from Perth to Jakarta.

Hi Arthur, no need to requote the exact message above, thank you - mod

Which type of Aircraft are they using? B738?

J Brown 7th April 2009 12:55 AM

MEL/SYD-DPS-CGK is opb A333
PER-CGK is opb 735

The 738's ("or 73H's") do PER-DPS twice each day

They used to do this route in the past SYD-DPS-CGK. Its not a whole new route for Garuda its just a reinstated flight. Be nice if they did a few non-stop SYD-CGK

Waaaaay back in 1980 I flew from Sydney to Jakarta with Garuda via Denpasar on one of their DC-10s -GIB (sorry, I can't remember the Indonesian prefix just at the moment). I remember that just after the plane took off from Denpasar on the Jakarta leg I got my first whiff of clove cigarettes as passengers had restocked during the stopover.... of course this was in the days when smoking was allowed on planes. I still LOVE that smell!! I also remember that the Denpasar-Jakarta leg was quite light on for passengers and those of us in the back cabin were moved into the middle one "for weight balance reasons". I took that as being code for "the flight attendants couldn't be bothered pushing those trollies all the way back there just for a few passengers". I could be wrong.

Not sure I'd be jumping on the chance to fly Garuda....

Seems they have a series of mistakes... here is the latest

For many Foreigners, GA may not have the best record. But in Indonesia, Garuda is absolutely the premium carrier to fly with.

I hope they bring back their B747-400 in July for Bali peak season.

Steve, I've also flown GA PK-GIB/GID several times at the back seat , last row number was row 37 from memory. They had 2 flights leaving 10 mins apart each other, I tried to standby on the first flight (was a B737) and got disappointed and the second flight, to my surprise operated by a DC10 from CGK-Bali, with 11 pax onboard ! Awesome Crime Performunz ;)

Garuda Indonesia announced earlier this week that it would expand its Australian network following the delivery of its four new Airbus 330-220 aircraft.

New three-weekly Jakarta services to Sydney and Melbourne will commence from 1 August 2009.

Subsequently, Garuda will offer a daily service between Indonesia and Sydney, Melbourne, and a double daily service from Perth to Bali and four-weekly direct flights to Jakarta.

The new flights are a part of Garuda’s policy to introduce more non-stop flights to Indonesia according to Poerwoko Soeparyono, Senior General Manager Australia & Southwest Pacific.

He added that it will give Australian passengers easier access to Bali.
“We are also hoping that the new service will encourage Australian holiday makers to venture a bit further than Bali and explore some of the other amazing destinations that Indonesia has to offer”

Garuda plan to operate the A330-200'S on wed,fri sun to SYD from early august and Mon thur sat to MEL.
Cheers Lloyd

Just noted on Skyliner news:

PK-GPJ A330-243 (988) arrived Jakarta 19 May in full Hainan c/s. Hainan cancelled this delivery.

Does this mean all 4 are/were cancelled orders as I don't remember seeing the initial Garuda order? Checking AL looks like these may have been an ILFC order.
