Mystery 767 landing this morning

G'day,

Can someone please help me identify this a/c I have seen landing over past few months.

Today approx 9.15am, underneath 3rd runway in Newtown, I saw a 767 in 2 tone blue livery, that swooshes upwards on the tail.

The letters I saw said AER??

When I go onto SACL website for internationals arrivals it says nothing.

This has been driving me nuts!!

Cheers
Nadia

Nadia,

I'm guessing you mean ATI cargo- who operate 762F on behalf of Qantas.

See this pic? http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6257114

Hi Matt,

Yep that's her!
It's lovely to see a 767-200, not many of them around our skies these days except for Viva Macau....

Many thanks,
Cheers n beers :)

I thought I saw on an Atlas 747-400F last week a notice that it was operated "by" Qantas - was I mistaken? I have a vague recollection of an announcement a year or so ago that Qantas was going to wet lease them too.

Answered my own question by finding this:

The Atlas 744s are indeed provided to QF under a wet-lease arrangement, so it's considered that these are Qantas aircraft and the crew Qantas employees whilst operating the service. It's for this reason you'll hear them use a 'Qantas' rather than 'Atlas' callsign.

Brian Wilkes 17th February 2010 12:47 AM

No these are NOT Qantas aircraft only lease via the Atlas group. The call sign Qantas is used due to the lease conditions and that Qantas has the Cargo rights to land in the said country of operation.

The crew is also leased by Qantas via Atlas and not on QF payroll directly.
Qantas was going to paint the Atlas leased aircraft a few years back but decided not to due to reputation and marketing red tape if something were to happen to these lease aircraft.

Sorry for the confusion Brian. I did actually mean what you clarified; that the aircraft remain Atlas-owned and operated, but the wet-lease arrangment sees these freighters operating as QF services, rather than Atlas flights selling uplift to QF. Was a tad cloudy in my earlier post!
