Any spotting locations at SYD accessible by foot?

Hi,
This is my first post in the forums so apologies if this has already been posted, I searched but could not find anything.

I am keen to do some spotting at Sydney airport but do not drive so I can only go to the airport by train or bus. I've tried accessing some of the spots described in this link http://www.samchuiphotos.com/wheretospotsyd but it only given vague directions and the map isn't very clear. I also found the roads around the terminals are not very walker-friendly either.

Can anyone help with some info or advice about where to go and how to get there etc?

I have been to the observation deck at terminal 1 and it was OK but I would prefer to be outside with a better view.

Cheers,
Andrew

Welcome Andrew to the board!!
I Suggest you check out, http://www.16right.com - and click on Spotting. Qantas Drive, Eastern Park and Shep's mound are really the only locations accessible by foot from either of the terminals.. Have a look at the description that Graeme has given for each location, and im sure that will give you a bit of info.

Cheers..

Welcome to the Board Andrew. To shorten the walk to Shep's mound, consider taking the free shuttle from outside the domestic terminals to the Long Term Car Park and walking from there.

Perhaps take your bike with you via a train/bus ? That would make getting around the area much easier between the locations.

If you wanted, you could walk to Mascot Shops from Domestic and catch the 303 bus to The Beach.

The Bondi Junction heading 400 bus goes to Mascot shops from T3 (QF terminal) arrival section.

Is the observation deck any good? Do you have to be flying international to access it?

It ofers views across the freight apron, Rwy 16R landings and take-offs, and you can see the Qantas Domestic operations quite well.
It is accessible by any visitors to the International Terminal - you don't have to be flying to use it.
