A CIGARETTE dropped down a stormwater drain started a fire which forced the evacuation of Perth International Airport today.
Flights were delayed and 2000 people, including 500 passengers, were evacuated from the terminal as firefighters scoured the building to determine why thick smoke filled the building at 7.15am.
Passengers began filtering back into the terminal shortly before midday, almost five hours after the drama began.
Three flights were stranded on the tarmac for several hours while firefighters swarmed through the terminal this morning.
