Who could ever forget the events of November 28, 1979. A tragic and very much unnecessary waste of life.
I have read material regarding this accident previously and some of the accounts of those who worked at the scene post crash really make the heart sink.
There was a TV mini-series made many moons ago titled "Erebus: The Aftermath" which brought the accident back into the public eye in 1988.
Having flown to Antarctica on a Qantas sightseeing flight I know first hand what the mood would have been for all 257 passengers onboard TE901 in the flying hours leading up to the crash and I hope that feeling of excitement, anticipation and amazement fills their souls to this very day.
To use the overused cliche "a picture tells a thousand words" in relation to the following would be an understatement, instead I'll leave it to tell it's own powerful story
