Let's just get a couple of things straight about the "No Aircraft Noise" stuff - it grew out of the opening of 16L/34R, which changed flight paths quite dramatically, combined with weather patterns in the few months after opening which saw 34L/R in use for the huge majority of time.

And then Howard introduced "noise sharing", which saw areas which had never been affected by aircraft noise become affected. Not just the oldies - we bought our place so as not to have a flight path directly overhead, and were impacted by these changes.

As for the announcement re. noisy planes, it does strike me as pointless, populist BS given there are so few of them anyway. And Grayndler was the safest Labor seat in the country after the last Federal election.....
