When you have this level of ignorance as noted in the Sydney Morning Herald Travel section 23 October 2010, it shows the depth of the problem....

Quote:
Prohibited pointers
We were recently in Bali and enjoyed bartering with vendors on the streets and beaches and
bought a laser pointer for our son. Other members of our group also bought laser pointers for their
children. On our return to Melbourne, our luggage was screened by customs and the laser pointer
was seized. We were advised that they are prohibited imports and I now have a ''mark'' on my
immigration record and further breaches will incur a substantial fine. The same happened to the
other members of our group who bought laser pointers.
We bought them in good faith with no understanding of the seriousness of the crime we
unwittingly committed, so I write this as a warning to others.
