Ansett 767 3 Crew
Hi all. I just can't believe what you can find on YouTube these days. I wanted to share a link to an hour long ride inside VH-RME (sadly parted out in MEL some time ago). The flight is MEL-SYD and has some good views of the overhead panel, clearly showing the difference between the standard two crew 767, and the flight engineer station. Hope you enjoy.

IIRC Ansett was one of the only, if not the only airline running 3 flight crew B767's in the world.

Correct Nigel, Ansett was the only airline in the world to have the 767-200 have an flight engineers panel.
The plane was designed with one of the main features being a 2 crew operation and Ansett managed to make theirs 3 crew, pretty good in my opinion |

Once the 727s were retired and also the arrival of second hand 767-200s with standard 2 crew layouts, the original batch VH-RMD-H were converted to the standard 767 two crew operation.

It was strictly a Union thing, the Engineers would not allow the introduction of 2 crew widebodies. TAA had A300 had engineers, and with the two airline policy, AN were not going to be outdone.
Natural attrition, and the training of remaining FE to pilots, was the end result, and everyone was happy |
