QF 744 Question
I was watching a re-run of "Airport" from the pre-Morissey uniform days, and it featured a delay of a Qantas flight to Sydney operated by VH-OJA, 2 class 744. However, the problem onboard the aircraft originiated in the First Class cabin, and there was footage clearly showing the aircraft had a First class sky-bed style cabin with the old business class seats in the rear cabin. Were all the 2 class 744's originally 3 class?

That episode pre-dated the two class configuration. VH-OJA used to be a three class aircraft.

when and why did they bother with the 2 class config?

I assume it would be when the current P class was introduced (or maybe when Skybed was introduced).
Now Airport........that was a show! I wish 9 would show it again over the wummer! |

However, towards the end of its days on air in Australia they seemed to just repeat past episodes, so I'm assuming they possibly stopped producing new one?

I would guess and say that the 2 class 744 config came out when they were retiring there 74L and 742's around 2001/2002ish.
