Default Virgin Sydney jetbase

Heard on the 9am news, that Virgin will be setting up a jetbase in Sydney close to the International terminal. This should bring approx 1000 jobs to sydney with engineers and mechanics as well as other related staff being involved. Have checked the news sites but can't see anything as yet..

I saw this pre-announcement article on The Australian website earlier today:

Virgin raises job hopes
Angus Hohenboken | September 02, 2008

VIRGIN Blue is promising the creation of more than 1000 jobs over five years with the opening of a new crew base in Sydney.

The job opportunities will be for pilots, engineers and cabin crew. The base, near Sydney airport, will also be a central point for maintenance for Australian-based Virgin aircraft.

The move is expected to be announced by NSW Premier Morris Iemma today.

Investment in the base, which has been housed in existing buildings, follows the company's decision earlier this year to base its new international airline VAustralia in Sydney.

The press announcement just concluded.

Virgin Blue launched its brand new The Lounge at Sydney Airport and cabin products for V Australia.

The new lounge is about three times the size of the original one, and I am fairly impressed by any standard. However, the launch of V Australia Business & Economy Class seats and V Bar are somewhat average to the best.

Virgin Blue CEO and NSW Premier made a joint announcement about the establishment of Virgin Blue's Sydney jet base, which will create 1,000 additional jobs on top of the 1,000 announced earlier this year. The extra jobs will mainly cover pilots, cabin crew and engineers.

That's pretty much about it. I will try to get a few photos uploaded before tomorrow.

Cheers

Was just at the launch today. Just come back. Brett and Morris spoke for a while. Mentioned expanding of their Lord St Offices for training etc. However no word as yet on where or if Heavy Maintence will take place in Syd, but that they were a long way off for making a decision.

It is the old Golden Wing Lounge. However it has been refurbished heavily and heavily features redish and chocolate brownish colours with large relaxing chairs, they even have a small cinema of 20 odd chairs as well. Virgin however appears to occupy only one floor the bottom floor, witht he escalators to the upper part blocked off. Whether or not they use it who knows or whether they are allowed to by SACL. It was also open for the general public today as well.

Is access to the new Lounge before security (like Melbourne) or after security (like Brisbane, Canberra etc)?

Will this be at the expense of the Brisbane facility or in addition to it?
