Default SYD T3 - Gate 1A

I have always wondered what Gate 1A is used for at T3 at Sydney. The gate sign says Gate 1/1A, but I have never noticed it used for anything. Is it now redundant, or does it serve a purpose?

Before the embarkation point was moved to the southern end of the then Ansett terminal (now T2) T3's gate 1A was used at least once that I know of for behind the scenes air side tour boarding.

I would imagine that it could be used for boarding of aircraft parked east of gate 1 (if there are any such parking positions) or to board buses for air side transportation to stand off locations if required.

It used to be the old access gate for Qantas Executive when they operated as an FBO for bizjets.
