Default Jetstar opens 'The Gold Coast Lounge' at OOL

Just read in the travel daily that JQ will open the 'Gold Coast Lounge'. Valid for both domestic and international. Star Class pax will have free entry. All other pax will be $5 if pre-purchased online or $10 dollars at the door.

There is no mention of it being available to QF Club or Gold/Plat/CL members.

New JQ lounge for OOL - Travel Daily 27 May 09

JETSTAR has today revealed
details of a new one-off passenger
lounge at Gold Coast Airport,
offered to both international and
domestic passengers.
Labelled the Gold Coast Lounge,
users will be able to enjoy free
food & beverages, internet access,
plasma screens, magazines and
newspapers, plus there’s a kid’s
play area and cinema.
JQ ceo Bruce Buchanan said the
new lounge reflects the airline’s
commitment to the Gold Coast
and its increasing flight network,
which currently consists of 120
weekly domestic and 23 weekly
international services to New
Zealand and Japan.
A special launch rate of $5 is
being offered when booking JQ
Gold Coast flights online until 30
Jun, or $10 at the door.
StarClass pax on flights to Japan
will be granted free entry.
Its doors will open for the first
time to the public on Mon 15 Jun.

Yes irresepctive of a one world membnership or QF club membership, here is your answer.

"Economy passengers, including Qantas Frequent Flyer members (irrespective of status) and Qantas Club members, must purchase entry"

$5 and free food and beverages. This won't last long. Imagine what a footy team on a season end trip will drink in half an hour.

DJ charges $30 for casual entry.

I think this is a good idea. Qantas Group are making practical use of the defunct Qantas Club due to the QF withdrawal from OOL (I am assuming they are using the old Qantas Club).

Jetstar Star Class passengers can already access Qantas Club International Business lounges at QF international airports. With JQ moving their Japan flights from BNE to OOL and routing SYD-Japan flights through OOL it makes good sense to give their Star Class passengers on the OOL A330 flights the same privileges as they had before and also have at other airports.

Also, the fact that a LCC has a user-pays lounge is no different from DJ having the user-pays Blue Room (and the now renamed The Lounge). DJ classed themselves as a LCC when the Blue Room started if I remember correctly.

I guess so...it won't be as weird I suppose when Jetstar takes over from Qantas as the mainline Australian carrier

I am tempted to pop down at lunch time tomorrow with some mates, pay the $5 and let rip. On second thoughts, my sisters engagement party next week would work out awfully cheap if Jetstar hosted it at $5 a pop...
It isn't opening until nearly 3 weeks away fyi..
