Australia’s first widebody charter airline in it for the long-haul

A leading Australian air charter company will launch the country’s first widebody charter airline this month.

Strategic Aviation Group executive director Michael James said that at a time when many airlines faced turbulence, Strategic was taking the logical next step with the launch of its new charter airline – Strategic Airlines.

“In the current economic climate, our proven ability to rise above those conditions is a signal we have the formula right,’’ Mr James said.
“Our solutions-oriented approach, together with the flexibility to adapt to client and economic conditions, have been a major reason for Strategic’s success.’’

Mr James said the airline launch - at the Nikon Indy 300 on October 23 - would build on the company’s continued growth in recent years.“We’re responsive, innovative and able to respond and adapt to market conditions and it is this experience we will take with us into our new venture.’’

Strategic Aviation, a division of the Strategic Aviation Group,is a major sponsor of this year’s Nikon Indy 300 on Queensland’s Gold Coast, as well as the aviation solution provider for the event.

The company will bring 26 Indy cars from America to Australia ahead of the event, which runs from 23-26 October.

Strategic Airlines will use the Airbus A330-300 – the largest member of the twin-engine A330 series – when it takes to the skies from late 2009.
The airline’s launch will be the start of a year-long program across the Strategic Aviation Group to ensure the company continues its successful growth in the aviation industry.

“Our new airline will be a full charter airline that will also offer leasing options to airline operators around the world,” Mr James said.
“This will include the ability to fully operate leased aircraft on their behalf with Australian crews."

Is this the same as the Military charter service with CS-TMT opperating for it? They say "number of Airbus A330-300 aircraft" so I assume that means we'll see some more popping up and a new scheme I guess rather than the Hi Fly one.

Anyone know anything more about this? Is it an airline starting or just a charter service the same as it is now but with more aircraft? "Charter operations and Tour Operators"

Cheers

Strategic Signs Letter of Intent for A320’s
02 April 2009
STRATEGIC Airlines announced today the signing of a Letter of Intent for two Airbus A320 aircraft. These latest additions form the inaugural fleet for Australia’s newest airline.
Strategic’s Commercial Manager, Mr. Simon Moore said “We are in the final stages of negotiations to secure the aircraft. The A320’s will enable Strategic to provide a great passenger charter option, both within Australia and overseas.”
The highly regarded and extremely reliable CFM powered aircraft offer more flexibility. Strategic’s Airbus A320’s will have a range of approximately six hours which allows clients the ability to reach more destinations throughout the region.
Strategic’s aircraft will be used for charter operations, as well as fulfilling additional contract obligations alongside Strategic’s flagship, the Airbus A330.
Mr Moore said that Strategic is scheduled to take delivery of the A320’s in June and July this year.
Strategic has also released its new livery which will be displayed on each of their aircraft. The livery reflects Strategic’s recently released corporate brand.
With the launch of the airline approaching, Strategic has shortlisted both Brisbane and Melbourne as contenders for the basing of its headquarters, which will accommodate their fleet, maintenance and personnel. Strategic is expecting to double its employees to two hundred over the next twelve months.
The 320s will spend half the year in Europe and half here. Watch for more news in the next few months too.

Cheers

Default Strategic Airlines

I heard and saw all those photos about Strategic Airlines A330 arriving Sydney and is about to start operating.

However it seems a charter airline internationally, but it always seem really quiet that no news not even a page on Wikipedia can be found about their news.

So I got some questions:

1. Slogan for Strategic Airlines is "Bringing Service back to Air". Does it indicates this will be a new Full Service carrier in Australia?
2. What sort of services are we expecting Strategic Airlines to operate? If that is charter services, what will those planes do if there's no charter order? And how much can we expect to pay to charter their planes?
3. Will Strategic Airlines eventually start their scheduled service? If so, where would likely be their destinations? Will there be a price war in those routes by its rival Qantas?
4. What is the IATA and ICAO code for Strategic Airlines?
5. When will Strategic Airlines officially start to operate? Should we expect some ads to them?

Thanks

Answering some of your questions, Strategic have the contract to run BNE-HIR flights on behalf of Solomon Airlines and they have also picked up the previous ozjet run from Perth to Derby. Both of these are RPT services available for booking and will be A320 operated (though the A330 has operated to HIR this week while they await next week's delivery of the A320).

They also then have the Defence Force contract with the A330. Not sure of any other specific contract work. No doubt they will be chasing mining work like everyone else. They also had some plans for Europe too, but not sure where these are up to.
