What was weird...
My wife was on QF16 from LAX that diverted to Noumea. They sat at Noumea for a while - of course no extra food on board, and the usual whinging from some parties (how inconvenient to MY schedule, etc.), but apparently the alcohol was flowing again quite nicely on the Noumea-Brisbane sector. Clare said there were 3 Qantas jumbos at Noumea waiting for fuel and QF16 was the last one in the queue (which I guess is stating the bleedin' obvious as QF16 is the last one out of LAX!)
Now, what was weird was that most of the other early international arrivals in Brisbane made it through... including Virgin from LAX and other flights from SIN, etc. When Clare texted me, about 0530, from Noumea, the skies, certainly in northern Brisbane, were pretty clear. It was only as the light came up that the fog turned quite thick. I guess Qantas take a cautious approach - fair play to them - but if they had kept flying in, with a predicted 0625 arrival, as far as I know, they would have landed no problem. But hey, I'm no expert, put me in the simulator and I would have dropped the bird in the ocean many, many times over
