It's really quite sad...these are truly the workhorses of the Qantas fleet

Just a quick question. When these aircraft leave , are they stripped of all internal fittings eg seats, galleys etc. Do any ever operate as revenue earning flights to a point in the US such as LAX or SFO even HNL ?

David, a couple of 744s that have been retired (OEC and OED) both operated to LAX as revenue services before a tag-leg out to VCV. As the 767s can't operate transpacific to LAX or SFO nonstop in normal operations, they obviously can't operate a revenue service, let alone the restriction of the on-board product. I suspect the 767s are carrying ferry tanks in place of seats on these services -- the SYD-VCV has lately been operated non-stop. When the 747 Classics were retired, which have a slightly greater range than the 767s, they had a tech stop in HNL. From memory, the 762s also had this HNL stop even though they too can outlast the 763 range-wise.

They would fly from SYD-HNL then to victorville. No ferry tanks as they have the range to fly those distances. The only type i know to have ever had ferry tanks were the 737-200 & DC9.Some F27 also had ferry tanks when they were flown to the states via the pacific route. The longest leg for them is from HNL -LAX |

Ray,
I saw the flight plan on the one flown by AJ to KVCV last year - definately no stops ... direct all the way. |
