I was going through some of my photos from the past, which I have always just sorted according to date. It got me thinking, how does everyone keep track of all the photos they have in case they ever want to search for something? And do you only keep the best photos, or every one you took?
And yes, I know this question sounds a bit weird...

Hi Rhys
I'm a bit like Ray and also come from Dinosaur land ! I have more than 15,000 slides and prints which are sorted by aircraft type then either by construction number or line number. In the case of Airbuses, I sort by aircraft type then con number and with Boeings, by type then line number. Other manufacturers are sorted in this way as well. My Aussie military aircraft are sorted by "A" numberthen numerical sequence, ie A8-125. -126, -127 etc, etc. US Navy by type then Bu No ; USAF by type then serial number. All other foreign military by type then serial. It's all pretty straight forward, logical and simple. My prints are stored in albums, the slides in wooden boxes. I've use this system for over 40 years and have never had a problem finding anything. I don't have any digipics. |

I name my files by Date, Airport and Rego........
etc. 120409_YSSY_VH_VXY Every folder has 2 files of the aircraft, one is a .PSD with the full size image and all the layers etc and all work done still un-flattened, and then a 1600 pixel image which is the final result including sharpening and flattened in .JPG which will be the image uploaded to JP. If I ever want to search what images I have I can then easily search by rego, airport or date in the basic Windows search function. |

Hey guys,
I use a program called Adobe Bridge it is part of CS3 and can only guess that it is in CS4 as well. I don't think you can get it individually. Bridge is a basic database that allows you to attach many many fields of metadata to the image. Then using a simple find function you can search off any of the metadata you enter. I keep it simple and use Airline, Rego and the aircraft model/type only(I don't take it any further past 747-400 for example I'm not interested if its a 747-438 or what have you). If how ever the aircraft has a fancy paint job I use the term 'Logojet' not sure why I picked that but it works for me!!! I download my photos, convert them too a low res file in photoshop and store both pics on a external hard drive. I however only save the matadata on the high res image, If I need the low res image I know where to go and find it after finding the high res. Cheers M |
