Default BA to shed jobs & routes...

our friends at the London HQ of BA are about to lower the guillotine, seems some pretty hefty cuts are in order for the survival of BA.

They should start by simplifying their fleet a bit imo. Reminds me of Ansett.

They are lucky they got T5 finished in time. Briliant terminal that would not have seen the light of the day in todays climate.

Their fleet isn't that bad and the only 'overlap' in capacity and type is with the 737's/757's and A319/20/21's. I beleive the 737/757's are slowly on their way out, so maybe this will speed their departure.

IMO the biggest problem with BA's fleet is their 767's. I fly them on a semi regular basis and compared to their siblings in Qantas are in a very bad state indeed inside the cabin. Old and run down is an understatement. Their replacement the 787 as we know is yet to make it into the skies.

Yeah thats what I was referring too. Running 737's, 319,20,21, aswell as 757 is an expensive exercise. As you say the the older Boeings are slowly being phased out but that doesnt help the situation now.

I flew a BA 763 LHR-ARN last month and have to say it was in superb nick inside for a outdated cabin. It was good having a large sized plane on a 2.5 hour sector. Bit of a lottery on that type by the sound of it.

Considering the (orginal) size of their 757 and 737 fleets they are doing well in changing them over.

Surprised with the 767 you had, wonder which one it was. As I understand it BA has two basic configs. A long haul config for flights to parts of US and Africa, and a European config. The long haul config has had reburbishment including the fitting of their Club World seats, but not the European fleet. In the past year I have been to Athens, Moscow (twice) and Stockholm on the 767's and am yet to get on a good one!

Of course even the crappiest 767 is better than some of the 757's they have. I always did like the 757's but they have sadly had their day.

It would have been nice for that day to be over here at some point. Sadly, we've missed out on that era.
