Default Airfast Indonesia MD82 at Cairns Airport Today

Seen here at Cairns International Airport, Airfast Indonesia MD82 PK-OCT on its regular monday 2pm departure to Timika, Indonesia. This is the 2nd Indonesian airline to serve Australia after Garuda.

Also seen at the International terminal a Virgin E-jet. Not sure why it was there maybe a charter flight. Or maybe they plan to start a Cairns-Auckland service.

On it's way empty CNS-MEL as DJ9062. It was VH-ZHD.

Don't forget Air Asia Indonesia (QZ) who already currently fly DPS-PER.

Hi Jarden, it was even better when they used to fly their 737-200s into Cairns!

Default AIRFAST & other Indonesian carriers

Is their a chance "we" are fogetting all of these former Indonesian carriers that had skeds out here - once upon a time : > Sempati (to PER); > Merpati (to DRW) & > Paradise Air (to SYD)?

And, remember back before the Boeing 737-200! It was the > Airfast B A C 1-11, that visited CNS weekly, or so

Hi Mike,

I think Jarden's reference was to current Indonesian carriers serving Australia, but thanks for the info on the previous carriers. Also, is Paradise Air the same as Air Paradise which used to serve DPS from several Australian ports?

Yes. Of course. Must have been thinking of a floatplane operator, for a moment there. (Is it an age thing, perhaps?)

Question. Does > Airfast really serve Australia? It's surely a closed flight, with mining personnel on board. Still connected with the Freeport McMarron gold mine/s in what is now West Papua, but formerly Irianjaya

I was looking at Airfast indonesia on wikipedia they still have the 737-200 and 2 MD-82's a Embraer Legacy and a BAE 146 which was here in Cairns recently undergoing maintance. They seem to come here every Monday at 11.30 am and depart at 2pm.
