Non-window windows and other inside information

One of the things that I find irritating with online checkin software is that it never shows those 'window' seats that have no window installed.

My FF profile requests a window seat and I believe the seat allocation software indeed allocates me a real window seat. But if I decide to select a seat closer to the front when I check in online, I sometimes discover that I've chosen a seat with no window installed because it was not apparent in the 'change' routine that I was doing that.

If anyone else has this kind of problem I thought I'd share a site that has all of this information (and more) for various a/c types and carrier configurations, including in particular (by mouse over display on a yellow seat) which window seats aren't: www.seatguru.com Hope that helps other FFs who weren't aware of this great site.

Now if the checkin software would just give the aircraft type and version in more detail, the combination would be perfect! And they don't yet cover DJ aircraft - does anyone know if another of the airlines listed has equivalent seating configurations that would serve as a proxy for Virgin Blue aircraft?
